"Genuine Hick began in November, 2005, when John Noerdlinger, an underground songwriter masquerading as a stockbroker by day, made his debut on the open mike night stage at Sober Grounds, an Oklahoma City coffee shop. John blundered through a few songs and
was ignored by the sparse audience. However, he was able to befriend a musician/artist named Bob Moore who ran the open mike night program. Bob and John started developing some of John's songs and the results were encouraging enough that Bob introduced John to one of Oklahoma City's top professional bands, Scott Keeton and The Deviants.
Working with Scott (guitar) in his recording studio, John, Bob, Rick Toops (organ), Mike Meyers (bass), and James Keys (drums) attempted to take John's songs to the next level. For reasons that are still unclear--one explanation is that most of the guys were going through or just coming out of divorces--there was a creative symbiosis and John's rough hewn tunes were reborn into the wrenching, narcotic music you'll hear on the CD."
Genuine Hick began work on a second project, "Current Problems in Animal Behavior," in March of 2007 and hopes to release this CD in December of 2007. As of this writing, 9/11/07, we are maybe two weeks from finishing our mixes. We are extremely excited about how the project is turning out. We've added a stunning vocalist, Lacey Saunders, and have also benefited from the talents of the bluegrass tandem of BuffaloFitz (Buffalo Rogers and Fitz Jennings)
Influences include Elliot Smith, Dylan, Tom Waits, The Ramones, AC-DC
Scott Keeton (lead guitar, vocals), John Noerdlinger (vocals), Bob Moore (guitar, mandolin, saxophone, vocals), Rick Toops (keyboard), Mike Myers (bass), and James Keys (drums) Lacey Saunders (vocals)
