Born and raised in Detroit, Flames always knew there was a spot for her in the music industry. At a young age she began to play instruments such as the clarinet and the piano. She also loved to write poetry and short stories. When hip hop began to get more "worldly accepted" in pop culture, Flames knew that she wanted to be part of the culture and lifestyle that we call hip hop music. Listening to everyone from N.W.A to The Fugees, Notorious B.I.G,Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige, Flames began writing verses to some of her favorite hip hop songs. That's when she began to develop as a lyricist.
In 1998, Flames met another artist that was just starting out that goes by the name Dirty Doc McCruddy. Dirty Doc is part of a rap group called D.H.E Karruptaz which consists of him and his partner MarVel. The group asked Flames if she would like to be featured on a song and she said yes. Being that this would be the first time that Flames had ever recorded, she was a little nervous but without having a second thought, she quickly said yes. The group recorded the song "Say What You Wannna Say". From that point on Flames has been recording and growing more and more as an artist.
Flames is more than an artist though, in 2003 she started her own music publishing label called Mayell Music Publishings which is affiliated with BMI. Also in 2007 Flames started her own record label called Mayell Music Entertainment LLC.
Flames has done a showcase at the Broccoli Rabe Entertainment Complex located in Fairfield New Jersey. This showcase was given by Tito Batista for Black Rose Production. Mr. Batista became interested after Scarlet's performance but due to contract disagreements Flames did not sign with him.
Scarlet Flames is back in the studio putting the finishing touches on her album titled "Jealousy Breeds Envy" due out summer 08. The lead single "Im Gone" is a sure summer heat rock! The album also features the songs "Put Yo Hands Up" and "Doing Me".
