Biography

JEFF SAXON

While it’s difficult to attach a simple word or phrase to describe Jeff’s sound or songwriting style, one can easily detect its jazz, blues and old-school R&B leanings. He’s been likened to such artists as Eric Clapton, Keb’ Mo’, James Taylor, Bill Withers, Marc Cohn, Paul Carrack, and Michael McDonald. But no matter what the comparisons are, Saxon’s vocal gifts are undeniable. IAE Magazine (I Am Entertainment) simply called it “a great voice” and a Minor 7th reviewer took it quite a bit further in saying Saxon has ”…a voice that is utterly disarming...”

Jeff’s compositions have earned him over 35 awards from various national and international songwriting contests and he’s a former staff songwriter for the long-standing New York City-based publisher, Bourne Music. In 2010, Jeff was a finalist in two national artist and songwriting competitions; The Hottest New Artist Competition (in Virginia) and the Telluride Blues Festival’s Acoustic Blues Competition (in Colorado).

Jeff's music videos have won Best Video awards at two film festivals: The 2012 World Music & Independent Film Festival ("High Time For A Hero") and the 2012 Awareness Film Festival in Los Angeles ("Murdering Us From The Sky").

Saxon's songs have also been recorded by a diverse group of artists. “I Want Peace” was recorded and released in late 2011 by talented 7 year old vocalist, Kara, with special guest vocalists, The International Peace Choir (who represent children from 28 countries). The digital single and video were released on iTunes. California-based blues and country artist, Erika Nann, included 6 of Saxon’s blues and country tunes on her 2011 release, “Keep On Smilin’”. And country artist, Jerry Alvin Dean, just cut "The Heart Of America", which is a featured track from his forthcoming EP.

All of Jeff’s recordings are available at iTunes and CDBaby

"TRUTHTELLER", Released March 29, 2010
(Relevant Records)

"THE SPIN" (Relevant Records) Released November 22, 2006
12 fully-produced, commercially-accessible, pop-based tracks that stray into several sub-genres including adult contemporary, rock, blue-eyed soul, and AAA. The spine that holds them all together is Saxon's combination of emotive lyrics, soulful singing and catchy melodies.
"ME, MYSELF, AND I" (Relevant Records, 2006)
Released November 20, 2006
This collection of 13 tracks is largely an acoustic guitar/vocal record. Where some "bare-bones" projects might be viewed as low-budget, low-fidelity failures, this "unplugged" release shines brightly, mostly due to its high caliber of songwriting, heartfelt vocals, relatable themes and memorable melodies. Saxon's finger style guitar and high baritone vocals soar in this format and he proves adept at the ambitious variety of styles he takes on, which include contemporary folk, blues, jazz/pop, pop ballads, and bossa nova. Fans of artists such as James Taylor, Michael Johnson, and the solo work of John Mayer, will likely enjoy this recording.
Jeff's recordings can be purchased through CDbaby.com and will also be available on iTunes as individual songs.

Setlist

Jeff's sets are structured to suit the venue and the length of the set he is contracted to play. He can play exclusively originals, exclusively covers or a combination of the two. Jeff's cover tunes range from the expected solo guitarist/vocalist fare (Eagles, Beatles, James Taylor, etc.) to the unexpected (Mose Allison, Peggy Lee, Sly Stone, Dusty Springfield, Michale Buble, Elvis Costello, Shania Twain, Train, etc.). His originals are stylistically expansive and include pop, rock, blues, jazz, country, folk and Brazilian. He can easily play 12 sets of cover tunes without repeating a single tune. He also has a couple of sets worth of acoustic guitar instrumentals, both covers and originals.
