Biography

The Aimless is an open-ended music collective led and organized by singer/songwriter Jon Latimer. The group now has 5 releases under their belt, and has worked with a number of local indie labels. In 2006, the band released two EPs on The Bay Area's Tricycle Records. They then released their first full-length, self-titled album on Devil In The Woods Records in 2008. In 2009, they released the 'Tran-EP' - a limited run 3D tape with a digital download key, recorded as a 3 piece, with veteran drummer Eric Kuhn (of Built For the Sea/ Silian Rail), and in cooperation with the East-Bay label, 500 Records. Their latest release, "The High Dive to Lo-Fi Volume 1", is their first self-produced, self-released full-length, and features the same playful and experimental approach to song writing, but spanning genres ranging from folk to rock, electro and more. With catchy songs written with 'a little something for everyone', the aimless never miss is guaranteed to please!   After coalescing in Sonoma County's small and incestuous rock scene, The Aimless Never Miss packed their bags to try their luck in San Francisco. About two years and two EPs later, TANM is gigging with a psychedelic light show that matches their spacious guitar and mood-driven tunes. The band is working on their debut LP between gigs at various venues around the Bay Area. They perform on February 12th, opening for Raised by Robots at Cafe Du Nord. Jonny Latimer (guitar/vocals) spoke during a phone interview with SF Station from his SOMA practice space.

If you’d caught the ANM earlier this year, you’re probably familiar with the wall-of-sound established by a five-piece band. Well, ANM are a bit more stripped down these days - Kuhn remained on stage for drumming duties while only guitarist/vocalist Jonny Latimer and bassist Andrew Macy joined him. Latimer and Macy tried to get the crowd ready with a handclap ukulele sing-along. It was a worthy effort, though not everyone was an active participant. The rest of the ukulele-free set was heavy on material from the band’s upcoming album, and the thinned-out lineup was an intriguing way to showcase it. While the five-piece lineup was a force to be reckoned with, the trio is free of distraction with an emphasis kept where it belongs - on the songs. In one impressive moment of the band’s musicianship, Latimer and Kuhn switched instruments mid-song, proving that perhaps the trio can carry all the weight...
