Biography

I began singing from the age of four years old, but proceeded to pursue athletics instead. I played softball during elementary school and then took up cheerleading in middle school.
Cheerleading continued through my freshman year in high school where I was a member of both the Junior Varsity football cheerleading squad and the Varsity competition squad. Becoming extremely disenchanted with the affair, I decided to tryout for the volleyball team. I was a member of the Varsity team during my sophomore, junior, and senior year.
Over the three years, I received honorable mention (sophomore), first team all-county (junior, senior), team MVP (junior, senior), player of the year (senior), and was a member of the Georgia All-Star volleyball team (senior). While in between high school seasons, I participated in the Junior Olympic Volleyball program.
My senior year ended with me receiving a volleyball scholarship to Valdosta State University. I started as a defense specialist my freshmen year.
After the 2001 season, I moved back to Atlanta and worked full time. In July of 2002, I decided to pick up the guitar. In August, I went to Georgia Southern University and played volleyball there for two years.
Getting no where with my music, I decided to move back to Atlanta and try to do something. Once I got back, I started playing at local open mic venues and began to receive offers for shows. In 2005, I played my first solo show and have been playing frequently since then.
Over the years, I have written several songs and in November of 2005, decided to professionally record a few of them. After almost a year, the project was finally completed.
The music is reminicent of bands such as Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles. My vocal sound/style is often compared to those of Stevie Nicks and Natalie Merchant.
I love the way music from the 70's classic rock bands used to be and feel. I try to take those influences that make their music special to me and blend it with trends that are popular today. It is very important to me that the initial sound of my music/song creates interest within a listener. I want the combination of music and lyrics to make sense. It is important to me that some kind of emotion can be felt while going through each song.

  The 23-year-old Kristin Tinsley, born and raised in Georgia began singing at the age of 4 and contin...The 23-year-old Kristin Tinsley, born and raised in Georgia began singing at the age of 4 and continued singing throughout elementary school. In 1998, her family moved to Woodstock where she graduated from Etowah High School. While in college, Tinsley decided to pick up guitar for the first time and began focusing on music during the summer of 2002.
  
  She continued to practice and write during her two years at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, and in June 2004, she moved back to Woodstock and enrolled at Kennesaw State University.
  
  Tinsley then began playing at local ‘open mic’ venues and those performances led to offers for her own shows.
  
  Her first solo show was in January 2005, and since then Tinsley has been plying her own shows in the metro Atlanta area and also hosts for Open Mic Atlanta (www.openmicatlanta.com).
  
  In November 2005, Tinsley began recording her first solo CD. With the help of some friends, she has completed an original 10-song album that she wrote, produced and played guitar.
  
  Tinsley will perform at the Mountain Moonshine Festival at the Dogs and Hogs stage on Sunday, Oct. 29 from 2-2:45 p.m.

  There seems to be a run of talented and beautiful ladies stopping by the Doghouse these days, and we certainly ain't complainin'. Please join us on Wednesday, February 21 as Ms. Kristin Tinsley visits The Cybertoxic Lounge with Eric Jefferson. We don't know why a sophisticated, bright, young lady of Kristin's caliber would want to talk to the likes of Eric, but we respect her bravery (just maybe not her judge of character). Perhaps she lost a bet. Regardless, we're happy to welcome her to our studio.
  
  Kristin recently released her debut album, Cry Out to the Night, which we're proud to say we're playing quite a bit. In fact, we believe that we were the first station to add it to a playlist! We weren't the only ones playing it for long, however, nor should we have been. The music is too good for that. You can check it out and pick up a copy for yourself right here. Kristin's songs pay homage to '70s classic-rock bands such as Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Tom Petty, and other artists who, way back when, created melody-driven and memorable music that resonated with fans of many genres and age groups. As Kristin says, "I try to take those influences that make their music special to me and blend it with trends that are popular today." We don't know much about current trends here at HounddogRadio (one look at the clothes in our closets would tell you that), but we do know good music. Kristin delivers that and more, and we're honored to have her come by and chat with us.

  It was quite the fun-filled evening in the ol' Cybertoxic Lounge as the lovely Ms. Kristin Tinsley came by to tease torment talk with Eric Jefferson. She was an entertaining and personable guest and we were honored to have her with us. We were even more impressed with how easily she put Eric in his place, where he belongs. Nice goin', KT.   You might "hear" Stevie Nicks. It's not. It's the voice of Kristin Tinsley, an aspiring songwriter and guitarist. She has released a debut CD —- "Cry Out to the Night." It gets airplay on HounddogRadio.net, a broadcast Internet site that caters to independent artists often shunned by mainstream radio.
  
  "I started singing at the age of 4," Tinsley, 24, told me, "but pursued athletics instead because it just seemed easier to get into."
  
  These days, you can catch her performances at venues across metro Atlanta. Locally, she hosts as well as plays for Open Mic Atlanta, the Gwinnett version of which takes place 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Tuesdays at Nemo's Tavern in Norcross.
  
  Tinsley, a Georgia native, graduated in 2001 from Cherokee County's Etowah High. There, she excelled at volleyball, good enough, even, to play for the Junior Olympics volleyball program. Good enough to land a scholarship to Valdosta State University. Defense was her specialty; she started as a freshman.
  
  Still, life was off cue.
  
  Early on, she'd put singing on hold to concentrate on softball in elementary school, then cheerleading in middle school and through her freshman year in high school. Then came volleyball.
  
  After her 2001 season at Valdosta State, Tinsley returned to metro Atlanta. She picked up the guitar, too, and taught herself to play. Then she gave volleyball another run, this time at Georgia Southern University. Her writing and guitar playing continued.
  
  Two years later, she returned to Woodstock and enrolled briefly at Kennesaw State University.
  
  She also made another decision, one that so many of us find difficult. She became serious about her passion. Open mic venues became her outlet. They led to solo bookings.
  
  Last year, she released "Cry Out to the Night." Though she's a fan of Nicks and other 1970s artists, the CD has no covers. She wrote, produced and played guitar on all 10 original songs.
  
  Eric Jefferson, a Hounddog host and musician, has had Tinsley on his weekly show, "The Cybertoxic Lounge."
  
  "I have heard some of the newer music she's working on and it's a step beyond her current CD," he told me. "Stevie Nicks is her No. 1 idol, but as she matures, she'll even break more from that and find her own unique style."
  
  I could barely hear Tinsley when we talked on the phone Sunday. Music blared. She was at a breast cancer research benefit at elon Salon, her part-time employer, in Marietta.
  
  She'd booked the musicians and organized the entire fundraiser.
  
  That's another thing about Tinsley, Jefferson said.
  
  Her heart is just as impressive as her music.
