Bio

A recent recipient of The Frederich Schorr International Prize in Voice, Lyric Mezzo-Soprano Lara Stevens has performed with Opera Pacific, Long Beach Opera, Opera Company of Brooklyn, Bronx Opera, Riverside Opera, Canto Español, Holders’ International Music Festival in Barbados, Hat City Opera, The New York Opera Project, The Greenwich Village Orchestra, and as a soloist with New York Virtuoso Singers (conductor, Harold Rosenbaum). Recordings include: Die Agyptische Helena (American Symphony Orchestra) and the Grammy Award Winning On the Transmigration of Souls with the New York Philharmonic. She was a participant in the Christa Ludwig Master Classes at Carnegie Hall and studied Lieder with renowned baritone and vocal teacher Horst Guenter in Freiburg, Germany. In addition to her operatic pursuits, Lara frequently “crosses over” to musical theatre and jazz, highlights include “Carousel” at Carnegie Hall, starring Hugh Jackman and Audra McDonald, conducted by Leonard Slatkin, commemorating Richard Rodgers’ 100th Birthday. She is the vocalist of the jazz trio, “The Gin Rickeys” (www.larastevens.com) and sang the theme song to the critically acclaimed Fox animated TV series, “The Silver Surfer”. A Cincinnati, Ohio native, Lara grew up in Southern California and has Vocal Performance degrees from Chapman University (BM) and The University of Southern California (MM). She currently resides in New York City and studies voice with Mark Oswald.
