Bio

Jason Weems' “voice like honey and gravel” (Amy Ambros, amyambros.blogspot.com) and seductive strumming come together in an eclectic blend taken from his many rock, country, gospel, and folk influences. Jason's award winning songwriting library numbers well over 400. Whether it's a well-crafted ballad or a grooved out hip-shaker, audiences are always moved and kept on their toes by Jason's songs.

Though you'll usually see him with a guitar in hand, his musical career and training started with composer/directors such as Milton Bourgeois and Douglas Parish playing the euphonium (baritone horn) and bass. Since then, Jason's collection of instruments and skills has grown as extensively as his catalog of songs. He now plays brass, woodwinds, strings, piano, and whatever noise-making tool he happens upon.

If you ask Jason, he’ll tell you that his real passion is language. His words are a guide into the heart of his experience. These stories capture the listener, and in that Mezmer’s trance, wrap them in the world of the song. Interestingly, Jason’s most intimate pieces are often the ones that are the most universal. He is consistently able to tap into a basic truth, that he illustrates with parables from his daily life.

Jason is a mainstay in the local Austin music scene, with regular gigs at La Zona Rosa, Flipnotics, Opal Divine's, Momo's, Cactus Café, and others. He founded the Austin SongWriter Showcase at Trophy’s Bar on South Congress, which continues to this day. As one of the oldest open mic's in Austin, it has played a pivotal role in many a band and musicians' path. The Showcase's ever growing alumni now includes more than 500 artists from the United States and 12 other countries.

Jason's latest offering, the much anticipated, "Möbius", is a collaboration with Andrew Pressman (Double Bass) , 'Sick' (Fiddle, Guitar, Ukulele, Beat Box), and is Produced / Engineered by Singer Songwriter Rebecca Loebe. With this album, Jason Weems is sure to leave listeners touched, entertained, and hungry for more.
