Biography

Stephan Potgieter is a classical tenor who has been singing publicly since the age of 5 years. He studied music at university level and took master classes under world class professors. Stephan has performed as a soloist in many musicals and concerts. He has toured South Africa and in Australia, he has frequently sung in the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast regions.
 

Musical Style

Stephan sings different genres from contemporary adult music to more serious classical music. Songs that form part of his repertoire are Amigos Para Sempre, (Jose Carreras), You’re Still You (Josh Groban), Jerusalem, O Sole Mio, You Raise Me Up and When I Fall in Love.

As a well known radio personality over the last 25 years in South Africa, and being a recording and performing artist myself, I have met and performed with a great variety of artists over the past years but I can testify to the fact the very few of the best—not only in this country but also from abroad—can compete with the versatile voice capacity and beauty of Stephan Potgieter’s voice.
  
  He has the great ability to perform as a contemporary or classical artist. I was so much impressed with his talent, when he was still relatively unknown, that I invited him to perform with me on stage on a national base for nearly two years. It was a roaring success. On radio, his voice and music have become a household name.
  
  His voice is supported by a functional knowledge of music and he also plays the piano. His commitment to a sensitive portrayal of the text and deeper meaning of the songs he sings has brought immense joy to so many people. His friendly and sparkling personality would be an asset to any performing opportunity.

Production is fine and musicianship is of `Pro` standard, but the recording lacks dynamics due to the type of compression used, though that's a minor point. I'd love to hear Stephan with a classical backing in a good acoustic setting...
