Aún y a pesar del tiempo, cuando pienso en la música de Centroamérica, muchas veces imagino ritmos, baile y folclore -así como muchos aún piensan que Colombia solo es vallenato-, pero es entonces cuando llegan bandas como Alphabetics, y me dejan ver otra cara de la moneda, una cara llena de rock, energía, rebeldía y mucho baile. Este cuarteto originario de San José, Costa Rica, que con una propuesta electro- rock, ha logrado ganarse un espacio importante en la escena de su país y otros lugares del globo, tienen una propuesta que avanza de lo más sencillo hasta llegar a una descarga de sonidos, imparable y bailable, que se nutre de guitarras , baterías y melodías contagiosas. - Escena Indie (Colombia)

Alphabetics may hail from San Jose, Costa Rica, but their music sends out a clear call to action in a universal language: just dance. And believe us, you’re not going to be able to stop yourself.

The technical definition of alphabetics is “the science of representing spoken sounds by letters,” so picture this: giant, bold letters pouring out of your speakers headed straight for your ears. That’s what Alphabetics’s music is like; it’s loud, it’s in your face, and it’s awesome.

The group describes themselves as a “five-piece punk band with lots of energy, chaos, and dance hall beats.” Quite frankly, we can’t define them better ourselves. On their song “Frutista,” you’ll hear a major dose of their up-tempo, high-energy sound. It’s infectious, compelling, and really catchy.

As the chorus drops with the repeated punch of “never gonna make it alone,” resign yourself to the fact that this line will stay in your head for days to come. Be happy about this; the song brings nothing but good vibes, embrace it! We did.

And if you’re looking to further your knowledge on Alphabetics, watch this video closely. We weren’t sure exactly what to make of it. Is it just plain weird? Super genius? Both? One thing is for certain: it is definitely creative. - The Hygenic

Alphabetics have become pure ‘dynamite’’ in the ongoing Costa Rican alternative current. They are driven by the idea of exploring new sonic territories as well as creating something fun that could entice the urge to dance. The “Indie Dance Punk” quartet is a mix of euphoric dynamic guitars, electronic sequences and explosive drums. These elements merge into perfect synchrony in their live performance.

The release of their debut material Self-Destructive (2012) placed them right under the spotlight. Since then, they have had a great deal of recognition and have played many festivals. Currently, the band is working on finishing their anticipated new album that promises to be more energetic, danceable and daring than its predecessor. Hablarle de amores, desamores y ligues a una generación criada por la televisión nunca fue tan divertido. Esta fue de las decisiones menos reñidas a la hora de montar esta lista y no es de sorprenderse: Selfdestructive trae cinco piezas grabadas de manera impecable y captura muy bien la energía que tiene Alphabetics en vivo.

Acá no hay punto bajo: de la intro de "Ciencia & Soya" hasta el último power chord de "Raised by TV" se disfruta y se contagia de las ganas de bailar. Podría decir que la mejor pieza es "Late to Work" , por ser una suerte de himno de las carreras matutinas y contar la hisoria de muchos, pero tampoco puedo olvidarme de "Bistek", esa maravillosa oda al desenfreno nocturno.

Es posible que no les esté contando nada nuevo; Alphabetics tuvo una buena cuota de exposición este año y todo apunta a que el 2013 no será —afortunadamente— nada distinto, pero vale recalcarlo: Selfdestructive es un EP sólido, una carta de presentación que augura un futuro de éxitos al grupo. ¿Para cuándo el LP?

Con inspiración de Foals, Does it Offend you Yeah, Phoenix, Arctic Monkeys, Minus the bear, etc Alphabetics trae una propuesta de rock/punk con beats para bailar muy bueno.

Ambas bandas tocarán en el festival en marzo del año entrante.

Tanto Alphabetics como The Great Wilderness anunciaron hoy que fueron seleccionados para tocar en el Canadian Music Fest 2013, a celebrarse del 19 al 24 de marzo en Toronto.

Las dos bandas viajarán juntas en marzo y tratarán de aprovechar para fichar otras presentaciones en Canadá y Estados Unidos (se ahorrarán un tiquete aéreo pues comparten baterista).

La noticia llega pocos días después de que nos enteramos que Los Cuchillos van para el Festival Verde en Panamá y el Vive Latino en México. ¡Qué semana!

El festival, uno de los más grandes del año en Canadá, se celebra como tal desde el 2009 y para el 2013 reunirá a más de mil (¡mil!) artistas, en su mayoría canadienses pero también con amplia presencia de actos internacionales, que se presentarán durante seis noches en un total de sesenta locaciones en Toronto. Entre los artistas de mayor renombre para esta próxima edición están Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, y Efterklang.

El festival es parte del Canadian Music Week, un evento se celebra desde 1981 y que incorpora varios días de charlas y presentaciones relacionadas a la industria musical. - 89decibeles.com
