"Scene & Heard - Caught Live: Rico Monaco Introduces Lead Singer"

"There's a new addition to Rico Monaco's band with a thunderous soulful lead singer named Brent Charles. At a recent performance at the Spec's in Jensen Beach to kick off their CD release party, they played a double set ofhot, spicy Latin rock with a world beat twist, including original songs such as "The Other side" and Follow Your Heart". The band topped it off with a smokin'R&B version of "Fly Like An Eagle" that really showcased Charles' hard-hitting vocal range and Monaco's flying fret work.
Currently, the band plans on touring the South florida area to promote their new CD and work on more originals." - Jeremiah Jenner

Bio

Originally from Long Island, New York, this unique vocalist comes from a large musical family that spans the globe. Demonstrating deep warm tones to a vibrant whistle register and producing C3s to D7s effortlessly with a vocal range of more than four octaves, Brent Charles sings in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Hebrew and has a musical range from Pavarotti, Sinatra and Barry White to Ne-Yo, Prince, Phillip Bailey, and Bruno Mars.

Traveling extensively Brent developed a keen interest in various forms of art early in life. Since his father wanted him to have a secure future with a real job, Brent initially studied computer technology & engineering and worked with his father at IBM for a short while before eventually embarking on a U.S. & South Pacific tour. Receiving a full scholarship in 2003 to the University of Miami Frost School of Music furthered his musical growth and desire. Although Brent is also a professional S.A.G. eligible actor/model and a professional visual artist (abstract & surrealism; mediums - acrylics, oils, and watercolor), his primary focus is unquestionably his first love, music.

Throughout his tranquil, jovial, or energetic high-voltage performances, he personalizes each song drawing from his own life's experiences and multi-cultural background while staying true to each individual art form. In addition to the influence of his mother, Cynthia Young Sheppard, and his uncle, Arthur Young of the Lafayette Afro Rock Band and ICE, two of his greatest musical influences are his two grandmothers, grandparents of African-American decent and the other grandparents from Trinidadian-Latin American, Caribbean & Mediterranean decent. Collectively their guidance and musical instruction encouraged him to develop the vocal skills to authentically perform Jazz (Brazilian & American Standards & Swing), Hip-Hop, R&B, Merengue, Salsa, Top 40, Calypso, Reggae, Rock, Country, Blues, Classical, Progressive, House, and other International genres. Recently, Gina Maretta has been strongly influencing his vocal development using the same Bel Canto method that his classically trained grandmother taught him.

*** His experience includes touring and performing internationally as the lead vocalist and/or bandleader for original bands and cover bands at numerous charities, weddings, country clubs, conventions, festivals, sporting events, etc. His live performances include opening for major acts as the original Drifters at The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Earth, Wind & Fire, Paul Anka at Donald Trumps Mar-a-Lago, and intimate gatherings such as Ivana Trump's engagement party. Studio recordings include projects for Ron Taylor at The Hit Factory/Criteria Records, original bands, and various songwriters.

* In His Own Words..

Growing up with a family of musicians and being taught and exposed to various styles of music in several languages from Classical, Salsa, Reggae & Calypso to Rock, Funk, Jazz & Hip-Hop deeply influenced and shaped me as an artist, all becoming a part of who I am. Hence, I cover the genres. According to many industry professionals for initial major recording success, I may need to focus on one main genre of music; but when the time is right, my future projects will demonstrate the full range of the great musical influences that I love and enjoy.

What else do I really love? Good People, Beautiful Horses - especially Arabians, Great Music, and Custom Yachts! Additionally, I definitely enjoy the game of chess, traveling, sports, wildlife and exploring nature, roller coasters, weight lifting, camping, and many other outside activities.

Yet,. Nothing compares to singing great music!
