In fact, this festival was Lupe Fiasco's first New York City gig. With bragging rights like these, there's no wonder why any up-and-coming artist would jump at this opportunity. Not to mention, at least 15 Sonicbids artists are guaranteed slots to perform.


All artists who submit will be considered for other performance dates including Show and Prove, Brooklyn Bodega's ongoing showcase event leading up to the festival. Winners of these showcases will also get a chance to open for headliners of the festival and be given more notable slots.

As recently announced, De La Soul will headline this year's festival! As a celebration of Hip-Hop music and culture, the aim of the festival is to highlight Hip-Hop’s legacy as an agent of artistic progression, community building and social change. The free annual event takes place at Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park and presents a number of artists with different takes on the genre. Those associated with the event feel the "Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival is funded, created, inspired and produced for Hip-Hop by Hip-Hop."




  • Monday, July 5th - Show and Prove - A showcase of independent and local talent. A glimpse into the next wave of artist and musicians. This will also be the final event of the three month Show and Prove competition.
  • Tuesday, July 6th - Bodega Education Initiative - A day of panel discussions and seminars designed to explore intellectual and academic issues facing the myriad of content producers in the Hip-Hop space.
  • Wednesday, July 7th - Hip-Hop Theater. Brooklyn Bodega and The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival join forces with the Hip-Hop Theater Festival to preview productions from the 2010 season.

  • Thursday, July 8th - Classic Hip-Hop Film Night. Under the stars, they will will screen a classic hip-Hop film as well as feature a Q+A with established and burgeoning filmmakers. They will discuss the emerging digital platform, the shifting economic landscape and new frontiers for cinematic expression<./li>

  • Friday, July 9th - Kickoff Party. As they ramp up for the big day on Saturday, they will host a party to formally welcome Festival goers, past and current artists and community leaders to The 6th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival.
  • Saturday, July 10th - Performance Day. The culmination of the 2010 programming. Old School, New School, Funk, Soul, Local, and International artists will converge upon downtown Brooklyn and the waterfront for a full day of the best Hip-Hop music the culture has to offer.

In addition to musical performances, the event offers a number of activities for its audience, including: Brooklyn Hip-Hop Family Day, film screenings, gallery shows and more. The festival is more than a concert or outdoor fair. It is a more of a family reunion for lovers of this great culture.
