Material: Staking her territory somewhere between Bonnie Raitt and Sheryl Crow, Holly Light offers an eclectic mix of country, rock, swing and blues. Her music is, at times, political (“Red White & Blues”) and at other times it’s empowering (“Keep Rising Up”). But, no matter which perspective she takes, it’s always entertaining. Especially intriguing is “Love Ya,” written by Gilli Moon and Jeff Dean, about loving someone you really can’t stand. “Forgiveness Road” is a radio-friendly potential hit.

Musicianship: Cunnane lays down incredible guitar riffs which are coupled with the backing of Katt and Friedman, providing the perfect vehicle for Light. John’s keyboards and Velasco’s percussion add an extra dimension to the music, while the harmonies of Little Sista complete the package.

Performance: Premiering her first CD for the Warrior Girl music label, Light took the stage after opening acts Gilli Moon and J Walker warmed up the venue. She proved herself at ease onstage, keeping the audience engaged and feeling the groove. The tight chemistry of her band complemented the sweetness of Light’s songs and voice, creating a mesmerizing spell that kept the crowd hanging on every note and word. Light’s set included covers of Aretha Franklin and Randy Newman, and ended on a very positive note with a song urging the audience to “Give it Everything You Got.”

Summary: Holly Light is an electrifying performer and could be a breakthrough artist. She has a strong message and delivers it in a non-threatening way. Light has the musical talents to make a difference, and will leave her mark on the local, if not the national, music scene.

NEW YORK – Out of more than 400 entries into the 2007 Peacedriven Songwriting Award contest, a song by California-based musician Holly Light garnered the most buzz among the panel of judges, comprised of social activists and musicians.

Anthony Stokes, director of the Peacedriven Organization, says the songwriting award honors songwriters like Light who can tap into music’s power to inspire social change. “Holly Light is an exceptional songwriter and you can feel the passion in her words and music,” Stokes said. “Her song ‘Keep Rising Up’ is timely and will inspire peacedriven people everywhere.”

The Peacedriven Organization, founded in 2001, is a nonprofit group established to inspire, motivate, and educate people about global social issues. The term “peacedriven” describes one who dedicates himself or herself to addressing social issues such as poverty, violence, justice, suppression of human rights, discrimination and crime.
