"My success has mostly to do with my ability and willingness to tackle every opportunity," Mel says. "I just jump into them."

That started with loving music and knowing she needed to leave Appleton, WI to really succeed at it. Destination Milwaukee? How about Chicago? Nah, try Manhattan. 122nd Street and Broadway. She moved here a few days after turning 18, for college and the future. Nothing like going full-speed-ahead.

Of course, it doesn't hurt to have a band you love. Mel has a bunch of musical projects, but her main focus is Mel Flannery Trucking Co.

"We're in love with each other. I would lay down in front of a train for any member of my band at any time. They're my life."
