"LOCAL BAND BBQ's ON STAGE FOR HOMELESS HORSES"

Sun Valley local band "Thicke Hawkins" threw a old school Bar-
Be-Que last week and performed a handful of songs to benefit the Sun Valley Horse Rescue Assn. But the most entertaining part about this fun family event was that they did both at the same time! That's right, between songs and even while singing, lead vocalist "Thicke" was on stage, casually flipping pork ribs, tending the coals, slapping cheese on burgers and taking swigs off a lil' brown jug as HarLee Hawkins and the boys jammed out to a mix of their special brand of Alt/Country Rock. To the side of the stage, HarLee would frequently walk over to stir up a crock pot of award-winning 4 alarm chili. The gourmet BBQ was gobbled up by hungry fans and supporters of this worthy cause. The music of Thicke Hawkins was a rare treat that helped make the afternoon a complete success. Bonnie Freeman, spokesperson for SVHR thanked the boys with big hugs and joined them on stage for a heart-warming county rendition of the Bee Gee's "To Love Somebody". There were a few tears but all were shed in the hopes that abandoned horses in the greater Los Angeles area would be saved from being put down. There has been a spike in abandoned horses due to the recent wildfires as well as the national housing collapse and economic downfall that have left many equestrian families homeless; unable to board and feed these beautiful, gentle animals. Donations are always gratefully accepted and the voulenteers at SVHR thank those who came out once again to give a voice to those who cannot speak. - VALLEY HORSE OWNERS ASSN.

Bio

In his life-long quest to craft memorable, 'Play that again!' songs, John uses his Jekyll/Hyde personality to find fresh, uncharted waters in telling timeless tales of love, loss, joy, fear and fun.

Weaving his own life events into fictional dramas (and sit-coms), listeners may laugh or cry depending on the scenario he chooses to exploit. Never one to let a lip-quivering tear slip away, John capitalizes on his grasp of human emotion, showing a knack for putting the listener in his shoes when a loved one dies, when life is created, a lover says goodbye or a new attraction catches his eye.

Born and raised in post '68 riots Detroit, son of a ghetto patrolling cop and an inner-city urgent care nurse, John soaked up the scratchy-sweet vinyl melodies of 60's/70's AM Gold, Motown, Elvis, Bob Seger, The Eagles, John Denver and the Beatles that always filled the family's small East-side, red-brick bungalow.

In 2008, CMT picked John's song, "Sad Face" to compete nationally in the Music City Madness Video Contest and in April 2009, he signed on as staff writer for an independent label in North Carolina. Currently living in northern Los Angeles horse country, John is producing music for online sketch comedy, pitching Pop/Country songs to Nashville and booking shows with his Alt/Country novelty band, "THICKE HAWKINS".
