"Kate Leahy at the Excelsior"

"Kate is blessed with a soulful voice and a great rapport with the audience... at times she disappeared into her songs to such an extent that she could've been on an island alone, or on stage in front of thousands, and wouldn't have known the difference... any lovers of folky pop or soulful singers will discover a rare gem in Kate Leahy." ?-

"Kate Leahy's Raft of successes"

Between online marriage proposals and performing with German music idols, Coogee chanteuse Kate Leahy has finally found her feet in the music industry.

However, it hasn’t been an easy path for the girl from a cattle farm in central Queensland.

“It’s taken a lot of effort and you have to continuously keep at it,’’ Leahy said.

“There are a lot of up-and-coming artists in Australia. You see that in any pub and any venue you walk into. There’s a hell of a lot of competition.”

With the release of her debut EP, The Life Raft, last September, things are moving quickly for the acoustic pop singer. Her song The Life Raft reached No.1 on Triple J’s Unearthed and it has been getting air time in countries such as Portugal and Germany.

A music video for the song, made on a budget of $20, has also had instant success online scoring No.9 on Youtube’s “most discussed music video” chart within the first few days.

But popularity among Youtube fans has also spawned some unexpected online marriage proposals, something that Leahy laughed off and said she tried to ignore.

“It’s great to see that people from across the world are clicking on my music. It’s only recently that everything’s started to pick up,’’ she said.

On top of radio interviews and gigs, Leahy is now preparing for her world tour starting in Germany later this month.

The country is familiar turf for the singer, who has experienced some memorable moments performing with one of Germany’s music sensations, Dieter Thomas Kuhn.

The Life Raft is available for download on iTunes. For more information visit her website http://www.kateleahy.com.au/ - Southern Courier

‘Bring home more’ is the upcoming release by CQ musician Kate Leahy. Kate is preparing to record in May 2013 at Studios 301 with 5 time platinum selling producer Tim Carr.

Following the release of her 3rd EP in July, Kate will be touring QLD, producing and headlining a 2-month tour called The Village Festival Road Trip.

Kate first received notoriety in 2009, with her debut EP ‘The Life Raft’ getting to #1 on the Triple J unearthed chart. The song ‘The Life Raft’ was chosen to be part of a compilation CD in America raising money for cancer research (Tunes to target Cancer). And the film clip to the song (a unique stop motion video) got to #9 on Youtube’s ‘most discussed music video’ chart.

Kate toured Europe on a self-managed tour, promoting the CD and played in countries including Germany where she performed alongside artists including Katie Melua & Sarah Blasko at the Jazz Open in Stuttgart 2010, as well as headlining at the festival Villa Nachttanz in Heidelberg. The tour also took her to Switzerland, France & the UK.

Her 2nd EP, Reborn was recorded in 2011 and released through MGM in March 2012.
It is available through music stores and online.

Playing alongside Kate on the CD are artists including Hamish Stuart (Marcia Hines,
Jackie Orszaczky), Dave Symes (Missy Higgins, Sarah Blasko), Ben Edgar (Megan
Washington, Missy Higgins) and Stu Hunter (Katie Noonan, Wes Carr).

The tour to promote Reborn took Kate around regional and metropolitan QLD for solo shows through Rockhampton, to Toowoomba, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Yeppoon, Cairns and finally to Sydney.

Highlights of her career include being the support act for Matt Corby, Lanie Lane, Mia Dyson, Bobby Alu & Diana Anaid, as well as teaming up with Jeremy Marou (Busby Marou) for a couple of shows . Kate was also a finalist in the MusicOz Awards for 2012.
