Bio

Originally from Houston, TX, Kelley Corwin now resides in the all-embracing mountain town of Asheville, NC. Surrounded by the mesmerizing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, she writes songs with stories of timeless circumstances mixed with a witty spin on modern day drama. She is not limited to any certain genre, however, most of her songs are country and folk melodies with an undertone of blues and pop combined with a Texan-mountain flair to make her songs unique to the ear. She transforms any light or dark topic related to the human element and speaks the truth in a heartfelt and fun-loving manner. Her lyrics are straight forward with a softened edge. And some of them are just plain rib tickling.
Ho Lotta Trouble, co-written with her husband, Mark Corwin, was recorded by Gary Vukasin and award winning guitarist and producer of the Robert Earl Keen Band, Rich Brotherton. It made the semi-finals of the 2007 International Songwriting Contest, making the top 500 out of 10,000 songs. The idea for this song started when her husband said, “If you write a song that says…She’s a ho……… lotta trouble, it will sell.” Kelley said, "This will be easy. I will just write about myself because I truly know I’m a ho..... lotta trouble”. Well, her husband was right. Shortly after the song was recorded, they had an offer to buy the rights.
Kelley has also been invited to show case her songs three years in a row in 2008, 2009 and 2010 at the Richard Roddy Music Event in Crosby, TX with famous songwriters to include Allen Shamblin, Austin Cunningham and Houston Marchman. At this event professional skydivers jumped in as the Jumping Johnnies to debut her song, Angel in Black, which is a tribute to Johnny Cash. Angel in Black, recorded by award winning singer songwriter Leeann Atherton, was selected to be on the 2009 Music for Troops compilation CD and received honorable mention in the 2008 Gary Allen Nashville Songwriting Contest. Up and coming singer songwriter, Joshua Singleton also recorded Angel in Black, and his version was selected in June 2009 to receive airplay on the worldwide broadcast show Midnight Blues Special Radio at www.ms-blues.com, broadcasting through live365.com out of Paris, France. Nashville producer Chip Martin helped produce another version of Angel in Black, which Austin directors are currently collaborating to make a music video on the song. The award winning group, Blue Mountain Myst also recorded Angel and Black, which recently in May 2010 started receiving airplay on radio stations in the southeast.
She has also co-written several songs with her friend Laura Ashworth who is also a very talented musician, songwriter and member of the award winning group Blue Mountain Myst. One of their songs Remember Mama was also selected to be aired on the radio broadcast Midnight Special Blues. Remember Mama and another one of their songs, Global Warming of the Heart was selected to be aired on the Women of Substance broadcast. As well as Cut His Cable. Global Warming of the Heart also made the top ten finalist in the International Acoustic Songwriting contest. In April 2010, Global Warming of the Heart was selected by the Alternate Root Magazine to be on CD compilation Music for Positive Social Change, which includes music from other established artists such as Ivan Neville.
Inspired by songs of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Toby Keith, Sheryl Crow, Robert Earl Keen and Gretchen Wilson, Kelley’s songs have caught great appreciation from her musical colleagues, friends, family and the general public. When asked to describe her writing style, she states, “Because of God’s grace, I am surrounded by very exceptional, creative and intelligent individuals - my husband, friends and family. They are the wizards behind the curtain. Their life stories are my inspiration. One of my dear friend's asked me to write a song about her second ex-husband who did nothing but sit around and watch TV. So I did. It's called Cut His Cable. It's turned out to be a real crowd pleaser. Most of the time I just write the songs hoping to make my friends and family laugh.”
Currently, she is collaborating with songwriters, Laura Ashworth and Leigh Glass and producer Rich Brotherton on a few new songs to be released in September 2010.
