Marina Kesler

She was born in the Ukraine, she lives in Los Angeles and she sings in eight languages. Marina Kesler is that rare vocalist who qualifies as a true chanteuse, one whose multicultural bent makes her repertoire and style both provocative and unique.
A statuesque beauty with flaming red hair, Marina's striking figure matches her passion for music. Whether she's singing Mozart or Jerome Kern, Edith Piaf or Stephen Sondheim, she finds the emotions within and shares them with her listeners.
The voice that observers have called "angelic," "powerful" and "emotionally moving" had its origins in the romantic Black Sea port of Odessa. She has been singing as long as she can remember. At the age of 9, she picked up a guitar, and at 14 she graduated from Odessa's Children's Music School. While she performed mostly Russian and European pop at first, an introduction to Russian social-protest songs opened her eyes -- and ears -- to the broader possibilities of music and lyrics.
She moved to the United States with her mother and grandmother in 1989, settling in Los Angeles. Here, she says, she discovered a whole new world of music: Broadway musicals, magical blues, soft-rock contemporary ballads, Spanish romantic songs, and much, much more. She has been studying bel canto vocal technique for several years with renowned vocal teachers and coaches. Marina has performed in various venues, both public and private, for the past 20 years, thrilling a sellout crowd at Hollywood's legendary Cinegrill and most recently at the Gardenia Club.
Marina sings in Russian, French, Italian, Spanish, Ukrainian, Hebrew, Yiddish and English. Her passion, however, knows no national boundaries. "These songs have wonderful ideas," she says. "I want people to feel their true human emotions, to cry truly, to laugh truly, to reflect on themselves and their lives."

RETURN is my second CD, and what makes it so special is that it marks my progression as a performer and as a human being. My heart has grown and matured, enriched by extraordinary life experiences and people. Now I am singing opera, along with standards from the American stage as well as the songs I have written. Whatever the musical style, I am an instrument to express the melodic and poetic context of a song or an aria, and to convey its rich emotions.

The songs I share with you come from the deepest place in my heart. And if I have succeeded in bringing out their true beauty and meaning, then I am happy.
