For Immediate Release

The Chicago based non-profit organization, Clothe Them In Dignity, has joined forces with one of Chicago's strongest vocal powerhouses, to lend voice to the urgent need or items for children in transitional foster care. Nicole Mitchell, an independent musician and native Chicagoan will be releasing her eagerly anticipated sophomore CD "A SOUND OF MY OWN", Saturday May 31, 2008 during her show at the DuSable Museum, 740 E 56th Place at 7:00pm.

To help celebrate Nicole finding her sound, she loaned her voice as well as her flight attendant resources to Clothe Them In Dignity, to help secure luggage for Chicago's children that are being relocated. Clothe Them in Dignity's founders, Maleia and Miyanni Ransom, are two youths that recognized that children need to maintain some of their dignity when they are being rehomed, and rather than having the children move their things in "garbage bags", that it would be much better to assist with providing local foster care agencies with luggage, clothing, toiletries, as well as other items to help facilitate moving children as well as to let the children know "they are not garbage".

Nicole Mitchell has organized a luggage drive through the major airline company that she works for as well as dedicated a percentage of the proceeds to Clothe Them In Dignity, thereby further expanding the amount of luggage and toiletries that are being made available to foster children.

Please come out and support Nicole Mitchell's efforts, "A SOUND OF MY OWN at the DuSable 740 E 56th Place, Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 7pm. Hosted by K.C. Ticket pricing is VIP $35 priority seating (after set included), $25 advance and general seating, $30 general tickets at the door.

For tickets, please call 708-359-8759 or 708-331-3187 or 773-995-6385

Nicole Mitchell - A Sound Of My Own
Merging classic soul sensibilities with hip hop in a way which emulates Angie Stone at her sizzling best, Nicole Mitchell has burst onto the scene with her brand new CD ‘A Sound Of My Own’. Her divaliscious performance on all 18, (yes 18), songs is sometimes seductive, often sexy and always assured yet although it could be argued that an album of, say, 12 selected tracks might have been a safer path to tread, it cannot be denied that ‘A Sound Of My Own’ is a collection of tremendous merit and a brilliant showcase for Mitchell’s work. In fact it was as far back as 2004 that Nicole gave the first indications of what her music was all about. Her debut ‘Many Moods Of Me’, a cool concoction of hip hop infused neo soul, included the soulfully sexy ‘Everything I Miss At Home’ and ultra catchy tunes such as ‘Many Moods’ and ‘Over You’. It signposted the direction in which Nicole was headed and now, four years on, with her own great compositions, increased production nous and top notch input from Sharay Reed and Keith Henderson, Mitchell has really arrived.

‘A Sound Of My Own’ opens with the stridently horn driven ‘Just Me’. With a ‘sisters are doing it for themselves’ thing going on it brilliantly sums up the confident, sassy persona that Nicole portrays throughout and with ‘Rise’, despite mellow beginnings, she comes up with a sure fire dance floor filler. The thumping ‘Let Go’ and the equally compelling ‘Tonite’ ensure that the tempo remains dazzlingly electric while the vibrant, pop orientated ‘Wanna Be’ provides Nicole with the opportunity to serve up her own soulful take on ‘stadium rock’. Much of Mitchell’s musical gift surrounds how, track after track, she is able to maintain a frenetic intensity. ‘2nd Time Around’ with its intoxicating killer beat and the catchy rhythms of ‘Chance With U’ help Nicole do just that and when with ‘Feel The Groove’ she evokes 70’s Philadelphia, the energy levels remain just as high.

As a producer Mitchell never holds back and employs every trick in the book to make the most of the dance infused ‘Why I Love’ and the raw ‘Crazy’. However, as far as ‘A Sound Of My Own’ is concerned, ‘up tempo’ is not the only show in town. The languidly sexy vibe of ‘Final Cry’ affords a stunning platform for Nicole’s big soulful tones while both ‘On This Day’ and ‘Set U Free’ show off a refreshingly tender side of her vocal prowess. She assumes a distinctly Macy Gray sound for ‘How Long’ while her sexy intro on ‘Back In The Day’ morphs into an ultra cool example of neo soul. That said, amongst an abundance of riches, this is an album that contains several truly exceptional cuts.

Written and produced by Sharay Reed, the deliciously mid tempo ‘Have Some Time’ features fantastic retro keyboards from Terry Moore. Mitchell’s picture perfect vocals are to die for and she is just as good with the mega soulful ‘Hurt Affair’. Produced and co-written by Keith Henderson this soulful smoker checks every conceivable box yet even better is the breathtaking ‘Thinkin Back’. Mitchell’s cool spoken word introduction, a wonderfully jazzy vibe and intricate rhythms that evoke Incognito at its best will ensure that this becomes a Smooth Jazz Therapy track of the year.

Nicole Mitchell is an amazing talent and with ‘A Sound Of My Own’ has delivered a sensational addition to this year’s new music

Born and raised in Michigan, its no wonder this girl has the soul and spirit of Motown!!! A little vocal training from Bertha McNeal of Motown’s “Velvelettes” didn’t hurt either. Now splitting time between Chicago and Dallas this singer, songwriter, performer and actress is definitely a bonafide quadruple threat on the scene!

Vocally - she has pipes that not only command attention with her range of power, she has a unique sound of her own.
Lyrically - Her lyrics range from such emotion and truth with everything from heartache, to love, to dancing, to suicide prevention, loving life despite obstacles such as cancer, bucket lists’ and to loving oneself...What can we say...Honest Music...Finally.
Performance - she not only has a smile thats radiant and contagious...she embraces you from the first note and makes you groove, cry, laugh and sing along without even taking a step away from the microphone!

Nicole started out performing in stage productions ranging from Beehive, Once on This Island, Dreamgirls, Wine in the Wilderness, and countless others even being cast as a replacement for Shenzi in Disney's "The Lion King". Once she moved to Chicago in 1998 she joined a few bands which led her to bassist and friend Lamar Jones and began performing around the city. Always having had a knack for writing she finally met up with Keith Henderson (M.D. and writer for “The Emotions”) who co-wrote and guided her thru her debut cd "The Many Moods of Me", which had successful sales worldwide and with the help of many supportive friends and fans she was able to produce, promote and headline her own concerts, selling out the HotHouse and packing the PARKWEST to cap! The sophomore cd entitled "A Sound of my Own" was released in 2008 and produced with the help of producers such as Keith Henderson, Khari Parker (drummer from Destiny's Child, Raphael Saadiq, Boz Skaggs and Joss Stone) Sharay Reed (M.D. and bass player for R.Kelly), G WIZ and a few others. Influences range from Ella, Sade, Maysa and Lisa Stansfield to Stevie, Bob Marley, Prince, Michael Jackson, Annie Lennox, CeCe Peniston, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, Bonnie Raitt and Jill Scott. Although she has a unique sound of her own she has been compared to Toni Braxton, Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Lisa Stansfield and Randy Crawford. The 3 things that set her apart from other artist are 1. Her high energy and comedic spirit, 2. Her sound is her own, 3. Her look is her own.   Nicole has been called to open shows for Wayman Tisdale, Paul Taylor, Michelle Branch, Avant, Cherrelle(she loved the cover of her "Everything I Miss At Home"-also performed background), Angela Winbush, Malcolm Jamal-Warner’s “Miles Long”, Al Johnson, Jeffrey, Shirley Jones of “The Jones Girls”, Jean Carne (also performed background) and Oscar winning actress and comedian “Monique” . Also appearing as a background vocalist on Preston Glass’s cd “Color’s Of Life” which led to performances with the likes of Ron Tyson of “The Temptations”, Cuba Gooding Sr, Freda Payne and more.
She has released a special project for a cause close to her heart for digital download only “No Suicide...Live..Be Aware, Show you Care”...www.NoSuicide.org
She proudly released her 4th project "The Bi-Polar Music Project...Vol 1: Licensed To Chill" which was released in June 2011. The first single "Forever United" featuring Phil Perry is receiving strong accolades which was written by Nicole, Phil Perry and Preston Glass (Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Jermaine Stewart, Maurice White, Kenny G and others). While recording Volume 1 of "The Bi-Polar Music Project", Nicole was tapped to record soul/house music in The U.K., Switzerland, Chicago, Portugal and South Africa and has been releasing songs Since May 5, 2010 which has landed her in the top 100 on the house music charts 4 times and she shows no sign of stopping anytime soon. Her latest single “Missing You” with Carlos Vargas was voted one of the top 100 songs of 2011 in Portugal among stars such as Usher and Seal. This is one independent artist who has and who is
