Think of it like quality control for both you and the promoter. In the past, all submissions were free and it resulted in promoters being inundated with submissions that didn’t match their needs (think heavy metal bands applying for jazz gigs). The result? Promoters weren’t getting back to artists. Frustrating stuff all around.
The good news is that 50% of the submission fees are $5 or less. And the money cycles back into the artistic community. On the promoter side, in most cases, they use the fees to pay the bands selected and to promote their events. As for us? We use the money to keep a steady stream of quality gig listings flowing for our members, to sponsor performance slots for Sonicbids members at festivals worldwide and to develop new and relevant tools for the community.
