The Purple Door Festival, held in Lewisberry, PA, is dedicated to showcasing quality artists to a large number of people. While large festivals like SXSW and Cornerstone have performing artists numbering in the hundreds each year, Purple Door has chosen to be more focused and simply present three well attended stages of quality music, an art gallery and a handful of important seminars on a 4th stage. This is done with the hope that every artist will find an audience.
This year’s attendance is estimated to be between 5,000 and 8,000 people per day and will feature over 30 performers!
Submissions will be accepted from rock and alternative Christian artists. New this year, there will be 4 artists selected to play early Friday evening August 14th on the HM Magazine Stage compared to the 2 last year on the gallery stage.
Purple Door was started in 1996 to show that creativity does have a place in the context of the church. Over the past 13 years Purple Door has been privileged to showcase hundreds of indie label artist including: Paramore, As I Lay Dying, Pedro the Lion, Over the Rhine, Relient K, Sixpence None the Richer etc. Historically festival highlights haven’t just been the big-ticket acts but also in being able to showcase quality artists to a larger audience. Danielson Family, Color Revolt, and Havalina Rail Company have played in front of thousands of people at Purple Door. Their prayer is that the fest inspires the artist as much as the people who attend.
