Avalonfest 2010 takes place at Avalon, the Mid-Atlantic's premier clothing optional resort. Once again, they are offering their song contest, awarding cash prizes, performance opportunities and networking capabilities to selected artists.
Anne Hills is their featured performing songwriter this year and will serve as a judge in the annual performing songwriter competition. Previous winners recently include David Kleiner (2009), Kaydi Johnson (2008) and Joe Giacoio (2007).
Anyone may enter except those billed as performers in Avalonfest 2010. Four finalists will be selected to perform at the festival.
Submit two songs that have not been released for sale. The two songs entered are the songs that will be performed by Finalists at Avalonfest 2010. Writers retain all rights to the songs. A variety of genres are accepted, although the festival generally highlights acoustic, world, blues, bluegrass, country and rock styles of music.
They have a bias: they admit it. Entries that include a well-crafted song that refers to getting naked or to the wholesome, egalitarian spirit of naturism, or plays on words that refer to nudity are likely to win the judges (and their audience) favor.
Prizes and Judging:
- FOUR FINALISTS will be selected to perform at Avalonfest 2010. Finalists may invite other musicians to join their performance, but the songwriter must perform the songs entered.
- FINALIST PRIZES: Each finalist will receive two 3-day festival tickets, meals and a campsite at the festival. Finalists will perform the two songs entered in the contest on Friday, 8/13. Finalists may sell recordings in the Avalonfest 2010 product tent.
- JUDGING: In this competition, song craft is the most important element, but performance does count. Judges will include songwriters Anne Hills, Sue Trainor (of Hot Soup and Avalonfest) and booking representatives of several regional venues including Scott Moore of Focus concerts (Rockville, MD and Alexandria, VA), Shari Gallery (Hampshire Co., WV).
- WINNER: The 2010 winner will receive $300, a 30-minute performance slot at the festival on Saturday, the offer of a paid performance opportunity in Avalonfest 2011, and the Avalonfest Performing Songwriter Competition trophy, featuring a tastefully artistic nude figure, perfect for attracting an customer eyes and interest to CD product display.
