The Semaphore Music Festival showcases South Australian and interstate live music acts considered outstanding by industry professional standards, in an ideal historic seaside village setting. SMF has built a reputation promoting live music acts on the crest of their careers, especially but not limited to alternative country/folk/roots/blues and original contemporary music like The Audreys, The Yearlings, The Fuelers, Red Hot Poker Dots, and The Huckleberry Swedes.
Since 2005 the event has been held annually over the October Labour Day long weekend; this year it lies on 1-4 October, 2010. the SMF is a four day event fashioned on music festivals like Tamworth. Over the years the SMF has developed an underground niche market with its own flavour, texture, and character reflecting the diversity in the independent live music scene. Last year's festival had over 10,000 in attendance to see their 6 performance stages and over 30 artists performing.
Major sponsors this year include SA Government through Arts SA and SA Toursim, therefore interstate bands get the same fee as local acts. Interstate bands do this gig for the exposure to new audiences and to promote their CD's and for fun.
