Grasshopper Juice Records is a Cincinnati-based record label looking for bands interested in performing at showcases, events, and their annual Adjust Your Eyes Music & Art Festival. The label was showcased at MPMF '09 and Bearcast's 'Brews & Bands' in Cincinnati. They've put out a handful of indie albums and brought noteworthy national artists to the Cincinnati area including The Macpodz, AFROMAN, Stephanie's Id, David Own, and Afuche.
Submissions should be in the following genres: psychedelic rock, folk, and electro/electronic/glitch. The label signs bands to single album deals, as to not pressure artists into a long-term contract. They also book up-and-coming national and regional acts that are touring through the Cincinnati area. Additionally, this inbox automatically submits artists for Grasshopper Juice's annual music festival, Adjust Your Eyes (AYE Music & Art Festival).
GJR was founded in 2008 by Cole Brokamp and Nick Mitchell from the Cincinnati-based band Chick Pimp, Coke Dealer at a Bar. After reaching an agreement with friends, artists, and investors, the record label pushed to strike digital distribution deals across the globe. With the foundation intact, the label's success is growing rapidly. Not to mention, they have found success in their festival, Adjust Your Eyes, which thrives from its charitable contributions to the American Cancer Society and Friends for Chris Walker.
Currently, the GJR roster boasts a variety of acts. The Harlequins, whose debut release is one of the most anticipated albums in Cincinnati in 2009, made its mark at the Midpoint Music Festival 2008, AYE Music & Art Festival 2008, and at the 2008 CEA Awards for their nomination in the "Best New Artist" category. Wonky Tonk was a "Best New Artist" CityBeat nominee in 2008, as well, and is releasing three albums in 2009; two solo albums and a rap album with Nick Mitchell. Chick Pimp, Coke Dealer at a Bar were winners of the 2008 CEA award for "Best Experimental/Electronic" artist. For more GJR artists, check out their website.
