The Hurricane Healing Project has grown to give a helping hand to all victims worldwide who have been affected by natural disasters including those in Haiti, Chile and the most recent tsunami disaster in Japan.
It has been steadily building this initiative to combine music with charity. Over the past few years, it has been producing the hottest compilation albums with the help of over 500 artists, with more and more signing up each day. All of the Hurricane Healing compilation albums are now available through iTunes, eMusic, Rhapsody and many more online retailers.
Fifty per cent (50%) of the funds raised by the Hurricane Healing compilations will be donated to the National Headquarters of the Salvation Army in the United States. Artist or copyright owner’s will receive 20% of the royalties, and 30% will be allocated to run and drive Hurricane Healing.
Some of the artists that have contributed music include; The Frames, Karnivool, Grafton Primary, Hayley Jensen, Barry CrockerJames Blundell, The Angels Band, Tony Hatch, Slimey Things, Imogen Bailey, Henry Turner Jr., Dino Jag, Ooh La La and many more! The Hurricane Healing roster is growing daily, and is always searching for artists who want to be a part of this cause.
The U.S. Ambassador for the project is Grammy Award Winner, Janice-Marie Johnson. Janice-Marie has a very personal reason for being involved in the Hurricane Healing project: Her 85-year-old uncle, who is blind, was one of the poor souls left behind in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina and is still listed as “missing”.
Janice-Marie says: “I am honoured to be involved with the Hurricane Healing project. My hope is that other artists will join me and the many others already working with Hurricane Healing and together we will build an exciting online community that helps support the very good work being done on the ground by the Salvation Army.”
The Hurricane Healing team looks forward to welcoming new artists or labels and having their music help those that need it the most – the victims of natural disasters all over the world.
