This year CONVERGENCE is pleased to be hosting a punk night at the famous El Rio Club here in San Francisco. The night will feature a special guest band from Mexico. All girl punk/power pop bands are encouraged to apply. They are looking for one headliner slot for the event.
Convergence is an annual boutique music and arts festival based in San Francisco that partners with local arts organizations to present the works of progressive, international and experimental artists to a young diverse urban audience. The principal goal of this project is to continually seek out exemplary artists who are continually expanding and reinventing their craft.
Now going into its fourth year of programming, Convergence is looking forward to yet another groundbreaking season. Since its inception in 2008, Convergence has grown steadily having established a reputation for being one of the few Bay Area presenters of exemplary underground and emerging international artists including Juan Son, The May Fire, The Cuban Cowboys, Monte Negro and Le Butcherettes.

Convergence MMIX Music Festival
"In its bat mitzvah year, the invaluable 13th Annual Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival has grown big enough to spawn a sidekick event with the Convergence MMIX Music Festival. Produced in conjunction with the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts and Peña Pachamama, Convergence presents some of the most interesting indie alt-Latin acts on the Bay Area scene (and beyond)" -Andrew Gilbert, Thursday, July 16, 2009

Spotlight on the Alternative Latin Scene
"Ann Blankenship, the Latin music curator for the festival who has been producing shows since 2007, wants to be an 'omega,' much like the artists she plans to present to the Bay Area at Convergence. "I'm not looking for mainstream Latin acts that generally come to the Bay Area like Juanes or Shakira," said Blankenship. "They're good but I don't think they're very interesting." -East Bay Express - Paula Lehman July 15, 2009

Latin Music Goes Experimental
"Unusual Hispanic artists are the focus of Convergence MMIX, a music festival opening in The City Thursday. 'Essentially, Convergence is a mini version of the Mission Creek festival, but only with an emphasis on Latino and other global music, film and arts,' producer Ann Blankenship says. Emerging progressive, experimental and lesser-known music genres are what set Convergence apart from other international festivals." -

Sounds of the Experimental Latino Underground
:Since 2008, Ann Blankenship has been producing Convergence — a sort of mini-festival within the Mission Creek Music & Arts Festival — whose goal is 'to present experimental and progressive artists from Mexico and Latin America — artists that are really unusual and unique,' " - Eastbay Express - Earbud Blog - May 13, 2010 - by Kathleen Richards
