Summary

WOMEX is "The most important international professional market of world music of every kind. This international fair brings together professionals from the worlds of folk, roots, ethnic and traditional music and also includes concerts, conferences and documentary films. It contributes to networking as an effective means of promoting music and culture of all kinds across frontiers." - UNESCO Global Alliance for Cultural Diversity


For artists, this unique opportunity to perform at WOMEX 13 in Cardiff, Wales, UK may well be the largest group of potential employers they will ever play for. Among its 2,200 delegates in 2012 more than 700 listed themselves as concert and festival bookers. Plus there are international labels, distributors both digital and physical, tour agents, journalists and much more.


Around 35 selected artists will perform on one of the 4 official WOMEX stages. The selection is done by WOMEX's independent jury, consisting of seven well-respected members of the international world music community – called the 7 Samurai.


PLEASE NOTE: WOMEX only stages WORLD an WORLD JAZZ artists and Sonicbids is WOMEX's only method of receiving submissions for showcase consideration.



Conditions: WOMEX is not in the position to cover any fees, travel expenses or other costs. So think carefully about financing and let the Jury know what support or funding you have. Invited artists will get FREE access to all parts of WOMEX plus one free registration for the partner of agreement (artist representative). The stage, the necessary equipment to perform, and special PR treatment on equal basis with all other WOMEX Showcase artists will be provided to all artists.



Important: To submit to WOMEX 13, there is a 2 step process:

  • Submission process Step 2: Send your CDs and Videos to the WOMEX office before 12 April 2013 (instructions to follow during submission process).
