The 12th Annual Florence Winter Folk Festival, in Florence, Oregon, is now accepting applications for performers. Last year over 1,600 people attended the festival and free Kids Koncerts by Barry McGuire and John York were provided to over 950 school children. Previous performers have included Tom Paxton, The Limeliters, The Highwaymen, The New Christy Minstrels, Tom Chapin, Chad & Jeremy and others. The headliners this year are The Brothers Four and John McEuen. The festival is interested in booking up to six performance slots available at Florence Winter Folk Festival 2014. Five of their performers in 2013 were selected from Sonicbids!
Selected artists may sell CDs and will be paid a honorarium of $500. They provide free lodging, food and drinks in the green room, free day passes to the festival and the opportunity to meet the headliners and other performers and jam with them at the jam sessions. Performers are responsible for their own transportation. Many performers come a day or two early just to enjoy the Oregon Coast. The promoter can also provide you with contact information for other venues in the Northwest if you want to try to book additional gigs while in the area. All performers are juried. The selected performer will perform up to two one hour sets for the public on January 17-19.
The festival includes acoustic music, arts & crafts, food, demonstrations, and jam sessions. The proceeds of the festival go towards enhancing the music program in the local schools, providing free concerts to students and to support the local community event center.
Groups with loud percussion or electric instruments will not be selected. Instruments such as acoustic electric guitars, electric bass, banjos, mandolins, fiddles, and tasteful drum kits such as bohdrans are acceptable. The festival provides a professional sound engineer and sound system.
