FILTER is the premiere music lifestyle publication covering on-the-verge bands and cutting edge musicians for the intelligent music lover.
Discovering the Undiscovered is a monthly contest to help promote the discovery of good music. Each month FILTER will choose one artist to rally behind. Using FILTER's resources to bring credible attention to the winning artist, the following properties will be leveraged for the duration of one month.
Selected artists receive:
- An option for a digital recording contract with Filter US Recordings
- FILTER's 12 city newsletters (LA, NYC, SF, DC, Boston, Chicago, Philly, Austin, Dallas, Portland, Seattle, Denver) will feature the Artist's bio and mp3 as the pick of the week for download.
- The winning artist will be featured across filter-mag.com, including: news items, video (if available), digital downloads, album picks, and reviews, as well as a bio feature within the Discovering the Undiscovered blog.
- A special ad will be created for the winning artist and featured in FILTER Magazine and/or the Good Music Guide
- Click Through banner ads will also be created and present on Filter's online properties to heighten awareness for the FILTER's Band of the Month
In addition, 5 runners-up will receive a 1-year subscription to Filter.
Check out the feature on Milano who were selected for the June issue.
Through these efforts FILTER will provide an avenue for awareness for undiscovered bands so fans gain awareness of the artist's music; thus generating a buzz and opening doors for more opportunities within the music industry.

The only requirement for selection is that the artist has some sort of body of recordings. Existing press is a plus but not required.
Tyler from Banter Records said this to say, on behalf of The Antiques and City Lights:
"Two of our artists were honored with the “Discovering the Undiscovered” feature in Filter Magazine – The Antiques and City Light. The Antiques especially benefited from this and headlined a Barker Block show in LA that was sponsored by Filter. This feature ultimately led to Filter US Recordings co-releasing The Antiques’ album "Cicadas" and really taking them to the next level. We are a small label and I think this proves that Sonicbids really works to get artists of all sizes heard and given the respect they deserve!"
Nive Nielsen had this to say:
My experience with Filter was absolutely great - maybe the best one I’ve had so far, in terms of Sonicbids applications. They contacted and helped me make a banner etc. I wrote a bunch of times with questions, and got a prompt, patient and helpful reply immediately. The best part about being selected is it got me a lot of attention - increase in web hits, but also after Filter, we got picked up by several blogs and now the article is quoted in other magazines. But maybe the really best part was that I felt validated as a musician. I read Filter myself, and they wanted to spend some time on what I do. It gave me a huge confidence boost. It gives me more credibility as a serious musician with songs that are worth hearing.
