The House of Flames is offering a unique opportunity for an artist to open an entirely new marketing channel by performing as part of a festival taking place entirely in Second Life. With just a little preparation, an artist can play to an international audience, with the ability for listeners to click through to a web site to purchase or download the artist's music.
The House of Flames has been helping artists market themselves to global audiences for a year, becoming a premier showcase venue for new artists entering Second Life. To learn more about how to stream a performance from your home computer into Second Life, visit Second Life’s Music page
As for the specifics, the Grand Ballroom at the House of Flames can hold up to 150 people. There is a club atmosphere at the shows, due venue’s high standards and the acts chosen to perform. House of Flames has wonderful associations with the press and has many Second Life and Real Life press following the House of Flames. If you want to know whether or not the event will get press coverage, just Google either the House of Flames or Flameheart Sol. This event will also get local newspaper and trade publication coverage.
Artists at the House of Flames receive payment for their performance, as well as the ability to keep all their tips. Artists will be compensated 3,000 Linden dollars (the currency of Second Life), which is about $16 US Dollars. However, Second Life should be seen as a marketing tool to sell music and generate interest. House of Flames has had ticketed events in the past where the artist can make wages closer to playing in a club but this event is more about getting artists immersed and generating interest and attracting as large an audience as possible.
The House of Flames looks for what any venue would look for in an artist: someone who is accomplished at their craft, can play original music as well as covers, can interact with the audience and make them feel as if it were an intimate club gathering. When new talent is scouted to play at the House of Flames, the artist is watched for the level of musicianship, the interaction with the audience, the audience conversation, and how many people the artist draws.
There have been some really talented performers in Second Life that were never asked to play for the House of Flames because they didn't know how to make the audience feel as if they were part of something very special. That has always been the magic of live music and it is no different in a virtual world. House of Flames does not do "blue" shows; excessive profanity and vulgar lyrics aren't acceptable. House of Flames caters to a discriminating audience and has understandably high standards for its performers.
