Great Waters Folk Festival is pleased to present its 5th Annual Great Waters Songwriting Contest.
Have your songs heard by a panel of professional songwriters and other music professionals from the folk music community! Panel includes professional songwriters, broadcast and print professionals, and other music industry people. Past panelists include Bill Morrissey (singer/songwriter), Ellis Paul (singer/songwriter), Gene Swimmer (Ottawa Folk Fest director), Vance Gilbert (singer/songwriter), and Annie Provensano (concert promoter, radio DJ).
Five finalists will be chosen to perform their songs for both the festival audience and panel of judges on Saturday afternoon during the 7th Annual Great Waters Folk Festival (July 25-27, 2008). Past performers include Judy Collins, Nanci Griffith, Arlo Guthrie, Natalie MacMaster, Del McCoury, Dar Williams, Richie Havens, and more.
The songwriting contest offers a $500 cash prize and an opportunity for the first-place winner to perform on the Saturday evening main stage at the festival, before the headliner’s set. All finalists receive performer lodging as well as one performer and one guest festival pass. Last years' winning song was recorded by New Hampshire Public Radio and broadcast throughout the state of New Hampshire and posted on their website. It is the stations intentions to continue this for the 2008 festival.
Please note: The contest is open to those who consider themselves amateur songwriters. For the purposes of this contest, an amateur songwriter is defined as a person who has not earned more than $7,500 during Calendar Year 2007, nor more than $5,500 during Calendar Year 2006, from songwriting.
