Folk Alliance Region West (FAR-West) is a regional chapter of the North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance (Folk Alliance). The sixth Annual FAR-West Regional Conference will be held November 6-8 in Irvine, CA. The conference is three days and two nights of showcases, networking, workshops, panels and a trade show. Folk Alliance Region West (FAR-West) is a regional chapter of the North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance (Folk Alliance). The sixth Annual FAR-West Regional Conference will be held November 6-8 in Irvine, CA. The conference is three days and two nights of showcases, networking, workshops, panels and a trade show. The regional Folk Alliance conferences are considered to be smaller, less imposing versions of the international annual conference.
Attendees include festival presenters, house concert presenters, nightclub and other venue operators, agents, artists, journalists, DJs and other supporters of the Folk and Roots music community. The conference will also include the fourth annual "Best of the West" Awards Banquet (included in registration fee).
Last year, FAR-West selected 54 Sonicbids artists to showcase. In addition to the genres listed above, dance and Old Time are also accepted.
Premiere Showcases at FAR-West provide a targeted opportunity for traditional, contemporary and multicultural folk musicians, as well as dance and related performing artists to perform for key concert presenters, venue owners, radio programmers and a variety of others in the music industry who focus on folk and acoustic music in the Western US. Many presenters throughout the West book their venues and concert series' for the next year from the talent they discover at FAR-West.
The juried Premiere Showcases present a diverse, high quality representation of the best of the artists who apply. Our panel of judges includes multiple people with varied backgrounds and musical interests including concert programmers, house concert presenters, radio programmers, previously showcased artists and other business contacts. Artist selection will be based upon a combination of multiple genres of music and talent.
Please Note: Artists chosen as Premiere Showcase performers must be members of Folk Alliance at the time of the conference, be registered for the conference, and will be assessed a $50 production fee. Selected artists are expected to defray their own travel and lodging expenses. A discounted band rate is available for registration as well as an early bird discount.
