The Kauai Music Festival is a 4-day celebration of the art of songwriting held on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. During the festival, they hold a songwriting competition to which registered festival attendees may submit one (1) song. This listing is for the songwriting competition only, therefore all submitting artists must first be registered for the festival. Five songwriting competition finalists will be chosen at the beginning of the second day of the Festival.
The competition will be held on the evening of the second day of the Festival, where each of the 5 finalists will perform their songs. Prizes for the 2009 KMF Songwriting Competition are TBA, but Past prizes have included appearances in a BMI Showcase in either New York, Nashville, or Los Angeles; Round-trip airfare for two on Hawaiian Airlines between the mainland and Hawaii; and various acoustic and electric guitars and recording equipment.
At the festival, you will learn songwriting from some of the best songwriters in America. You can consult, one-on-one, with award winning songwriters, Grammy-winning producers, and top A&R and other music industry people. In addition, your music will be heard in our small group seminars by the best songwriters, and in our songwriting competition your music will be heard by people who really can make a difference for you. There's nothing like it anywhere... just ask anyone who has ever attended! To see for yourself, check out their photo gallery here.
Please note: The Kauai Music Festival Songwriting Competition is ONLY for registered attendees of the festival. Submissions from unregistered artists will not be considered. Artists will be notified on the second day of the festival whether they’ve made it to the top 5. Each of the five finalists must perform their own songs in the songwriting competition. The finalists are also entitled to have one person accompany her or him in the performance. Both performers may sing, play an instrument or both. Alternately, the finalist may sing to a pre-recorded CD track.
