Viva Chicago: Latin Music Festival celebrates the diversity of the Latino world. In 2009 the festival traced the story of plena and bomba to the modern sounda of salsa and through the music of Veracruz Son Jarochos to the regional sounds of Bandas. The 2010 festival plans to celebrate the bicentennial of Mexican Independence as well as the centennial of the writing of the Mexican constitution. Viva Chicago: Latin Music Festival celebrates the diversity of the Latino world. The 2010 festival plans to celebrate the bicentennial of Mexican Independence as well as the centennial of the writing of the Mexican constitution. The festival features areas that are meant for social dancing and showcasing regional music as well as a stage for world renowned artists. The festival also presents all forms of culture from a Mercado to food ways. All submissions must show how the music performed fits within the tradition of the Latino world.
The Mayor’s Office of Special Events will accept all submissions that fit these guidelines between October 1 and November 1, 2009 for consideration. There will be more than 30 performers at Viva Chicago. Selected artists will be compensated for their performance. All notifications will be made by February 1, 2010.
