The Indie Music Cancer Drive is an annual fundraising event sponsored by Subsoap.com and jwmusic.org. The goal of the compilation is to raise money to benefit the American Cancer Society through their Relay for Life Campaign.
At least 3 Sonicbids artists will be selected for the compilation. Artists are compensated by receiving an pre-alloted amount of CDs for their own use as well as a number of digital download coupons to distribute as they please. Most genres are welcome, including instrumentals, although metal or explicit music will not be considered. In addition, music that expresses some connection to the cause is highly encouraged.
All songs will be included on a non-exclusive basis, and artists retain 100% ownership of their music and recording. Indie Music Cancer Drive simply asks for permission to distribute, promote, and play your music for no cost. Howevery, they require an unreleased or exclusive track, which artists are asked to keep unavailable for sale or free download until the third and final stage of the fundraiser.
The fundraiser has a three stage process. It starts with a pre-order period, which offers donors the most valuable option. Pre-order customers will receive a copy of the CD and a free digital copy. The second stage leads up until the Relay for Life event in late April 2010, which is where the bulk of funds will be raised. During this period, the album is available digitally and physically. In the final period, the album remains available on digital distributors and artists are then permitted to release their music how they please.
The fundraiser and Relay for Life event occur at the University of Cincinnati, in Ohio, but the event is marketed and promoted globally. This fundraiser is in its third annual stage, last year raising well over $5,000 on a shorter time frame.
The American Cancer Society does not officially endorse this event.
