Harvest is proud to announce that with the help of Galaxie– Canada’s favourite continuous music network– 2010 will see the return of the Galaxie Rising Star Contest. The competition offers new & upcoming New Brunswick artists a chance for exposure at a local, provincial and national level.
The Galaxie Rising Star Showcase event will be held on Friday, September 17th on the Galaxie Barracks Stage. Finalists will perform a 20 minute set and will be judged on talent, originality and stage presence by a panel of music industry experts. Votes are also taken from members of the audience and from online voting, so participants are encouraged to bring out family and friends for support.
The winning act will be crowned the Galaxie Rising Star champion for 2010. Along with that respectable distinction, they will also receive a generous prize package including:
- Exposure – including features in newsletters and local media
- A cash prize of $2,000 donated by Galaxie and the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival
- A feature on the Galaxie website and in its promotional literature on the Rising Stars program
- An opening slot for Mississippi powerhouse quintet Hill Country Review on the Barracks stage on the day after the competition
In order to be eligible, applicants must never have played a Harvest main stage. Bar, pub, restaurant, Tannery stage, Queen Street acoustic stage, and past showcase performances are NOT considered Harvest Main Stages. In addition, 50% of the band members must have either been born in New Brunswick or must have been living here since January 1, 2010. Applications will be adjudicated by a festival-appointed jury, and the final contestants notified by August 20, 2010.
The Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival is the ultimate jazz and blues experience in Atlantic Canada. The six day celebration features a staggering line-up of local, national and international talent in a huge annual party that’s been showcasing some of the best names in Jazz and Blues for two decades.
