The River Bluff Performing Songwriter Competition is open to singer/songwriters of any genre. In the tradition of contests like Telluride Troubadour and Merlefest, it puts equal weight on the quality of songwriting and the performance abilities of the artist.
10 finalists will be selected to come to Ashland City, TN on Sept 23, 2006 to perform their song for a panel of three judges, TBA. Judges are selected from Nashville's large pool of professional songwriters, performers, publishers, and music media.
Three winners will be chosen, one of whom will be named the Redd Stewart Grand Prize* winner. The grand prize winner will perform on the main stage of the festival in 2007 and receive billing alongside other festival artists – the 2005 winner will share the stage this year with Shawn Camp, Kevin Welch, David Olney, Michael O’Niell and others.
The 2006 Redd Stewart Grand Prize Winner will also receive a performance set at the world-famous Bluebird Café, production services from Big Front Porch Productions and other prizes, TBA
All ten finalists will receive a 1 year subscription to Performing Songwriter Magazine, strings and other swag.
All three winners will receive $100.
*The Redd Stewart Award is named for the Ashland City-born writer of the Tennessee Waltz. Declared the official state song of Tennessee in 1965, The Tennessee Waltz has been awarded BMI's 3,000,000 Airplay Award (one million airplays is equivalent to 5.7 years of continuous plays). Redd Stewart is a member of the Country Legends Hall Of Fame, and the Nashville Songwriters Foundation Hall Of Fame.
