Glasgow band The River 68's are set to rock the New Years Revolution Festival.

The band is the headline act on Friday night in Glasgow's famous King Tut's. Craig McCabe, Christian McCabe and Gerry Loughrey will be performing at the second night of the festival which features up and coming Scottish acts.

This is the second year that the event has taken place and will fetaure over 70 under the radar Scottish acts over a two week period.

Also storming the stage on Friday are The Fleet, The Toi and Kontraband.

The River 68's were formed by brothers Craig and Christian McCabe. A similar taste in music brought the aspiring musicians together with friend Gerry Loughrey.

The band has been gigging relentlessly throughout Glasgow and they have already played King Tut's when they opened for Stone Gods, featuring guitarist Dan Hawkins (also of The Darkness).

Dan was so impressed by the young band that he offered to hook up with them and work on their demos. They will now return to King Tut's as headliners.

Later in the year they will begin work on their album at world-renowned Rockfield Studios. The band will be working with producer Nick Brine who has worked alongside the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, The Darkness, Ash and KT Tunstall.

Rising Rockers The River 68s got a surprise yesterday as they rehearsed for yesterday's set on the T Break stage - Slash was in the rehearsal room next door. Rising Glasgow outfit The River 68's were blown away when rock legend Slash burst into their rehearsal studio.

The star dropped in just as they'd finished a run through of new single 'Just the Way (That You Do It)'.

And Slash told them he's their latest celeb fan, saying "Man, I like your sound and love the band name."

Slash had been rehearsing in the studio next door ahead of T and liked what he heard.

Guitarist Christian McCabe said. "It was the most surreal experience of my life, Slash from Guns N'Roses in front of us, praising our sound." - The Daily Record

Those readers attending this year's T in the Park festival should keep an eye out for a couple of local bands who are performing for the first time.

The River 68's and Make This Relate will both be appearing at Scotland's biggest music event, on Saturday. The River 68's take to the T Break stage on Saturday, July 9th while Make This Relate won a spot with Redbull Bedroom Jam stage and tour several festivals around the UK.

The River 68's are Craig McCabe on lead vocals and guitar, Christian McCabe on lead guitar and backing vocals, and Gerry Loughrey on bass and backing vocals. With a studio near the former Glasgow Apollo, the McCabe brothers grew up in Cumbernauld and befriended Gerry Loughrey which ultimately resulted in them forming The River 68's. They cite their greatest music influences as The Rolling Stones and The Beatles.

The band have gigged extensively, including an opening spot for The Stone Gods featuring The Darkness guitarist Dan Hawkins who liked them so much he offered to produce their debut album. This was recorded at The Leeders Farm studio by Dan and engineer Nick Brine who has worked with Oasis and Bruce Springsteen.

Entries are flooding in for our Big Apple Award. So it's maybe only fitting The River 68's fancy the top prize of a gig across the water in New York.

The hotly tipped Glasgow rockers - who release debut single 'Just the Way (That You Do It)' next month - are the latest in a string of fast rising acts to throw their hats in the ring for the contest.

A-Listed has teamed up wit Nordoff Robins Music Therapyp and Creative Scotland to launch the transatlantic talent search.

Up for grabs is a gig at Glasgow's legendary Garage for the best five acts and, for the overall winner, a show in the city that never sleeps, presented by the American Scottish foundation.

"It's a great opportunity for bands in Scotland," says River 68s frontman Craig McCabe. "It's a chance to play in front of an entirely new audience - and we think New York would love our sound. The Big Apple Award offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience and it would be an honour to represent the Scottish music scene."

Despite what certain music magazines may have you believe, Rock n Roll is not only for those in the first flush of youth. Two thirds of the Scimitars certainly appeared to be grizzled gigging veterans but their songs clattered along with zealous enthusiam.

Unfortunately, their five blues rock numbers did little else, with cliches abounding in lyrical themes of redemption, while an over-reliance on drawn out guitar work meant the sands of time passed slowly.

More freshed faced were the scruffs, a quintet who ambled onto the strains of the opening fanfare from Also Sprach Zarathustra. Such an introduction may have suggested a band with grandiose ideas, but their tunes were more straightforward, delivering pumped up hard rock.

Singer Gary Donlin displayed bounding energy while the songs drifted towards metal at points, and the more skittish, sparky tunes called to mind System of a Down. The groups stage presence seemed overly tentative throughout and Donlin's vocal wasn't always strong enough to deliver the fury needed.

That left headliners The River 68s, the most radio friendly outfit of the night. the youthful quartet bolstered for this gig by a keyboards player seemed indebted to the 1970s soft rock, both in musical and general appearance and Craig McCabe's frequently impressive voice was up to the task.

At times the songs were a little too sedate, more a band going for a light jog than on the run, but there were some winning melodies bubbling along, particuarlu on Sun Honey.

A gaggle of cheering girls near the front were certainly impressed, and you suspect many others could fall for their charms in time.
