Now entering its 4th year, the Serafemme Queer Women of Color Music Festival is a groundbreaking, six hour long outdoor festival showcasing 17 artists of various genres including hip-hop, R&B, acoustic, soul, funk & spoken word in addition to arts, crafts and food vendors. This year's festival will take place on Sunday, August 17, 2008 in Los Angeles, CA. Emerging artists are welcome to submit.

First year artists are asked to donate their performances, crowd favorites are asked to return in subsequent years for at least $150. Out of town artists should submit their performance quote for review. Artists outside California selected to perform will receive flight and hotel accomodations.

There are two slots reserved for Sonicbids artists.

Major sponsors include: the City of West Hollywood, Christopher Street West (2007, pending for 2008), GLAAD (2005-2007, pending for 2008) and the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives (2005-2008). Serafemme 2007 more than doubled its inaugural audience and yielded over 500 women in attendance. The festival garnered media exposure in Tomboyz Quarterly, dot Magazine and LN Magazine. Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. This event will be taking place on May 31, 2008 at the Seattle Memorial Stadium between 4pm and midnight. They are seeking 8 artists and bands to perform 30-45 minute sets.

Lyrics and music must be appropriate for all ages. Artists will perform one set and be given 15 minutes to load in and 15 minutes to unload. There is no compensation offered to selected artists, but there will be a table for merchandise sales. In the past, over 200 people have attended this event each year.

What is Relay For Life? Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.

University of South Carolina Aiken is located in Aiken, SC and currently accepting submissions for performances on campus during the Fall 2008 semester. Each semester, the school presents a variety of entertainment including music, comedy, and novelty acts that are both local and touring. In general, they book 6-8 artists per semester and prefer NACA artists (though they'd be willing to consider the right act if they were non-NACA).

Most performances take place in the SAC Lobby, which is currently under renovation and will have an auditorium space available. The SAC venue has a capacity of 250-300, and presents entertainment Mondays-Wednesdays. A basic PA system is available for performances.

Comedians, coffeehouse style performers, and college friendly music acts are encouraged to submit. Artists will be compensated for their performance with a negotiable, flat fee.

Rock the Light is the Midwest's largest Contemporary Christian Music Festival. In its ninth year, Rock the Light continues to bring the best music and messages to Kansas City youth and adults. Celebrate nine years of Rock the Light with over 15,000 people at Starlight Theatre this Labor Day weekend (August 28-29).

Rock the Light IX is teaming with other major festivals in the nationwide Christian Festival Association to bring you the "Rock the Light Talent Search presented by Essential Records", a joint online talent search competition that culminates at Rock the Light IX with a live competition among the 10 finalists chosen by online voting.

Here's how it works:
Online voting will take place from when you submit until May 31. The 10 artists with the highest number of votes will advance to the final round.

The judging of the final round will be split between a second round of online voting and the "finals" showcase and competition performance will be held "live" at the festival at the festival. Each finalist (band or track) will be given 10 minutes - enough time for two songs. This will be strictly enforced.

One artist will be chosen as the Grand Prize Winner and will be invited to move on to perform at the national Talent Search finals in Nashville later this year (date is not known at this time). Artist will be responsible for all cost associated with traveling to the finals in Nashville. The national winner will receive a development contract with Provident Label Group's Essential Records.

Imagine Festival is a premier music festival in the city of Basel, Switzerland. The festival is the product of Terre des Hommes Schweiz, a foreign aid organization which strives to eliminate prejudice. First established in 2002, Imagine Festival has grown in both popularity and attendance. Imagine is now the largest music festival in Northwestern Switzerland with an expected attendance of 35,000 people over 2 days. With one main stage which can accommodate nearly 5,000 people, and a large side stage, Imagine Festival is a great gig for artists of any career level. In addition to hosting over 20 bands, Imagine also features entertainment like fire shows and theatre performances, attracting people from diverse areas with varied interests.

This year, Imagine Festival will be held August 29-30, 2008. This year marks the 7th anniversary of the festival. The festival's main focus is to take an active stance against racism. The visitors are stimulated to rethink prejudice and take personal responsibility. This year's motto is "minmal2mal", which literally translates to "minimal 2 times". The motto is supposed to inspire people to question everything at least twice, and adopt an active personal responsibility against prejudice in every realm of society. They pride themselves in delivering this message through music, unity, and most of all, fun.

Imagine Festival is now accepting submissions from Sonicbids artists for general performance consideration. They are looking to book European artists only. There are 2 performance slots reserved for European Sonicbids artists, one of which on the main stage and the other on the side stage. Compensation is offered as a flat fee of 500 for the main stage performer and 200 for the side stage performer. Food and lodging may also be provided for performing artists.

In past years, the festival has hosted headliners such as Babylon Circus, I Am Kloot, Little Barrie, Ohrbooten, Belasco and Zita Swoon. Aside from the many musical performances, Imagine Festival also hosts workshops in local schools where topics such as violence and racism are analyzed and discussed. Imagine stands against racism, and strives to use music to unite people for this cause. The Urban Gospel Industry Awards and Conference is a week long conference and red-carpet award show, musical showcase and conference. The conference, an integral part of the 27th annual Edwin & Walter Hawkins Music & Arts Love Fellowship Conference, will be held at the Radisson Hotel in Sacramento, CA, June 22 - 28, 2008. The event is set to take previous gospel hip-hop conferences to the next level with late night artist showcases that include spoken word, Christian jazz, and comedy. The Urban Gospel Alliance (UGA) event was created to allow emerging urban gospel artists the opportunity to meet with other gospel industry professionals.

The nightly showcase sessions are held in 2 areas and showcases include New Artist Showcases, a Hip Hop Showcase, and late night Spoken Word, Jazz and Comedy Showcases. There are a total of 40 artist performances throughout the conference. Showcases will be open to the public and will be attended by invited label representatives and other industry personnel. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis. All styles of gospel music are accepted.

Daily sessions will include the following: Keeping Ministry in the Music; Keeping Business in the Ministry; and Holy vs. Inspirational-How Far Is Too Far? These sessions will cover topics including: Ministry in Urban Gospel; The Importance of Radio; The Role of Music Videos; Record Business; Running Live Sound; Importance of Press; The Role of a DJ; Marketing; Booking, Press Kits, & Public Relations; Stage Presence; Management and much more.

There is also a compilation CD to coincide with the festival. If artists choose to participate in the compilation, there is a $200 fee included for this optional project.

The Urban Gospel Alliance (UGA) is a member-driven organization that serves as a source of empowerment and support for its members. Members have access to many free promotional and other benefits including a free booking referral service and email promotion to over 34,000 people. UGA's focus is on the urban gospel music and alternative Christian entertainment. It serves as a forum and platform for all facets of urban gospel music; contemporary gospel, holy hip hop, inspirational, gospel jazz, neo-soul, and reggae, but also supports the ministries of Christian comedians and spoken word artists.

Please note: This opportunity requires all selected' artists to pay an extra fee of $125 directly to the promoter in order to participate."

The Urban Gospel Industry Awards will feature some of the brightest acts in urban gospel as selected by the general public. Who picks the finalists? From the initial screening, 100 semi-finalists are selected and sent to the offices of Billboard magazine. Editors at Billboard screen the semi-finalists to choose six acts to play each showcase.

This contest is an international contest open to all genres. The winning song will receive a complimentary remix (worth $5000 USD) by world-class producer/remixer Dr.Octavo. This opportunity will open doors to wider exposure and audiences, including different radio formats and club/DJ exposure.

Every song entered must be of professional quality with access to the acapella/vocal elements of the recording. Other individual instrument tracks may be requested, however original vocal elements are the most crucial and therefore are a must for submission.

Your song will be evaluated by Dr.Octavo himself and his international Crew of producers/remixers: Holo May (Germany), DJ Anim (Canada), Michal Zyka (Czech Republic). The judges will look for overall song potential, vocal hooks and instrumental hooks.

The artist will own 75% of the remix master, and 25% will be owned by Dr.Octavo. The IRIE Music Festival returns for its 7th year with an extraordinary festival lineup that celebrates the best in reggae, world music, and culture. The festival, which spans four days from August 1 to August 4, will once again feature stages at both Nathan Philips Square and Queen's Park. With performers representing an eclectic range of musical styles, dance, a Taste of the Tropics Food Fair, an arts and craft vendors market, a film festival, visual arts, a literary program and much more, IRIE Fest promises to have something for everyone!

All artists will be compensated: $400 for bands, and $150 for solo artists.

The Irie Music Festival was created in 2000 as a unifying symbol of Toronto's diversity, and has become an opportunity to promote a greater understanding between the diverse cultures and traditions of our world-class city. Irie Fest is the perfect compliment to Toronto's carnival!

Previous performers include: Toots and the Maytals, Third World, Morgan Heritage, Steel Pulse, Maxi Priest, David Rudder, Ernest Ranglin, Sugar Minott, Sattalites, Lazo, Jason Wilson & Tabarruk, Errol "Organs" Anderson, Brinsley Forde (formerly of Aswad), Willy Williams and more. Located in Evanston, Illinois, Northwestern University holds a weekly summer concert series from 12 to 1 pm called Lunch on the Lake. Artists perform outdoors on the East Lawn of the student union on Lake Michigan for students, faculty, staff and community members. The series will run from June 24, 2008 until August 12, 2008.

Northwestern University is looking for artists across several different genres and are open to a variety of acts, although they most often they host small jazz groups, acoustic groups, singer/songwriters and solo acts. Sound equipment can be provided and acts will be compensated with a negotiable flat fee up to $500. Artists must provide their own accommodations. The Lunch on the Lake series will host approximately 10-12 artists throughout the summer.

As a part of Chicago's North Shore region, artists playing at Northwestern University would be close enough from these daytime performances to also perform at Chicago the same night.

Track 7 presents: The Crash Mansion party, a night all about great musicians playing an awesome show at a great space in Manhattan.Unlike a typical NYC show that can be very rigid with set times and kind of cold, Track 7 is putting together a night with bands that will go great together, at a venue that will allow for a fun atmosphere where the music is the actually the theme holding the night together.

Crash mansion has the best space in the city for this, and has granted Track 7 the freedom to produce this show like an amazing party at a really cool venue as opposed to just another show in the city. Two more bands are needed to contribute to this special night on May 28th.

Compensation will be a split of the door and based entirely on draw. Bands can be from anywhere but must have a draw in NYC.

Music For Coffee Beings is a division of Magic Puddle Productions, owners of RPW Records. Magic Puddle Productions has a long history of passionately promoting and supporting independent artists through concert promotions, participation in festivals, tour promotion, and record/video production.

Music For Coffee Beings is accepting submissions for Volume 4, a compilation CD of original music. Their goal is to showcase original music from the best emerging and established artists on Sonicbids and beyond. Canadian bands are the focus, but bands new to touring in Canada are also welcome to apply. There are 12 spots reserved for Sonicbids artists on Volume 4.

The CD will not be for sale and will only be available from Music For Coffee Beings to selected cafes and coffee shops. 1000 CDs will be distributed to 1000 selected coffee shops and cafes in the major regional capitals and centers throughout the United States and Canada. In addition to the CDs being distributed, there are also 20,000 colour brochures distributed and a strong web presence through the Music For Coffee Beings website and their myspace page. Artist links will also be added to both.

This is Volume 4 of an ongoing series. Preview copies of Volume 1 have met with remarkable success and rave reviews from Second Cup, who have added many of the artists on the compilation to their Approved Artists Roster for booking in Second Cup Coffee Shops. Magic Puddle's network of cafes will build a library of the latest and greatest Canadian and world music.
