"Set The Water Straight album review: 4/4"

Stacey Y is real music, real singing (no AutoTune), real songwriting, and just flat out
amazing! From the moment my ears hit the 10 song, Set The Water Straight, album from
Stacey, I knew that I was in for an auditory treat.

Getting into the project, I was greeted by Stacey's jazzy soulful vocal that perked me right
up; opening the album with real vocals is a major plus. Stacey's sound is very Norah
Jones-esque and I could absolutely see her sharing the stage with today's top
Neo-Soul/Jazz artists, like Jill Scott, Amel Larrieux and the aforementioned, Norah Jones.

But that's not all Stacey does because she has an awesome pop-rock-soul edge to her
music as well. This fact is evident on songs like, I Tripped; a cranked rock n' roll song
driven by chunky grunge guitars, spastic drums and bass, and soulful pop vocals. It's this
song, and tracks like "Music" that keep Stacey out of the proverbial "box" that people
always reference when describing something cliche.

My favorite songs on Stacey's 10 song release are: Water (intro), Hey Sir, I Hope You
Know, Open Lot, Save the Future, I Tripped, and Words of Philosophers. That's 7 out of
10 tracks that made the "cut" in this review. Very few artists have impressed my ear like
Stacey has, and the ones who do...well, they get put into a special folder I have for those
artists who score perfect reviews and gain automatic year-end consideration for I Am
Entertainment Awards.

BOTTOM LINE: Go buy this album on June 20th. It's one of 2013's top indie releases. - I Am Entertainment Magazine

"A New Talent"

Stacey Y is a new talent growing by leaps and bounds. Whereas she was always a great keyboard player, the growth in her compositional and singing ability is astounding. Look out for these new recordings. - Ian Terry (Juno-Award Winning Producer)

"Dynamic, dramatic emotional range"

Some of us will be able to say we knew Stacey when she was discovering herself as an artist. We got to witness the birth of her dynamic, dramatic, emotional range. Plenty of others are going to discover it now, too. - Rik Emmett (Triumpth)

"Virtuoso Musician"

Stacey Y is a virtuoso musician who is quickly making a name for herself in the Toronto music scene. The ease in which she navigates various genres of music shows her talent has no limit. Stacey is a top level professional musician with many projects on the go at any given time. One to watch out for. - Andrew Osawe

"Upcoming albums: Stacey Y, Set The Water Straight"

A bright light among all the Nu-Funk/R&B/Neo-Soul artists playing around town is Stacey Y. She's a multi-instrumentalist. She's a Royal Conservatory and Humber College schooled-musician. She's performed and recorded in Nashville, New Orleans, Memphis, Austin, and Havana. And clearly, the musical energies of these locales have left an impression on her music.

This looks like a very promising album by a very talented local musician and singer, so I think you should definitely do the pre-order and reserve your copy today." - Alex Mine

Tragedy can spark the greatest of art, and when Stacey Y lost her father at the age of 18, the writing of her newest album began. Stacey's late father, Kost' Yerofeyev, was the lead singer of a patriotic folk/rock band Ruthenia. This band played a part in the Ukrainian Independence movement in the late 1980's. Included in Stacey’s upcoming release is ‘Words of Philosophers’, a song written in tribute to her father.

Even before relocating from Kyiv, Ukraine to Toronto at age 11, Stacey had a passion for music. This early transition did not only contribute to her multilingualism, but also her proficiency in the universal languages of Jazz, Classical, Popular, and World Music. Stacey’s music skillfully blends the genres of R&B, Pop, Rock, Modern Jazz, and Neo Soul. Inspired by artists such as Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, and Etta James, the Stacey Y band sets out to create music that is captivating, and full of surprises.

Being immersed in Toronto’s bustling music scene has inspired Stacey to partake in various side projects. These include the involvement of Indian influences, European Folk Traditions, and Classical Music. Classical piano was Stacey’s first step into the music industry, beginning at age six, and led to her obtaining an Associate in Classical Piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music. By constructing this eclectic array of genres, Stacey has had the opportunity to share the stage with the likes of Jimmy Cliff and Ziggy Marley.

The Stacey Y Band is currently preparing for the release of their album ‘Set The Water Straight’ on June 20th, 2013. The album was recorded at Humber College Studios, Epic Production Studios, and Heaven Sound. Comprised of Toronto’s finest young musicians Tom Hanley (guitar/vocals), Mark Rynkun (bass), George Nikolov (drums), and Stacey Y (keyboards/vocals), the quartet emphasized on one particular outcome. “Everyone works to perform as a unit as opposed to individual musicians. Our main goal is to form a solid, unified groove.” says Stacey. “Set The Water Straight is about being able to get in touch with yourself and understanding what you're made of. I think that until you can do this, you can't make a difference in the world.”

‘Set The Water Straight’ will be released at C’est What on June 20th 2013.
