"Clash Music - Track of the Day 19/11"

"Ja Ja Ja launches in London's Lexington venue tonight (November 19th) and to celebrate ClashMusic has a free track by headliners TV Off.

Sounding like punishment for a small child, TV Off blend hyperactive synths with moody vocals to create something quite distinct. The product of long hours practising in the icy North, their cool exterior belies a clear dancefloor potential."

Bio

TV OFF is an electro-pop hybrid featuring a colourful, hyperactive singer called Sara and a deadpan beatsman everyone around here refers to as Markku.

At a recent performance the duo were described by one chin-stroker as "like Sophie Ellis-Bextor meets Moby". The band kicked the crap outta that guy and he still eats through a straw. Luckily, it was all put down to "high spirits", and The Off was able to return to the studio to start on the debut record.

After only a fistful of gigs, the guys were attracting attention on a scale that made them both smile like kids in a sweet store (or Sara in a shoe shop) and soon they were snapped up for lovely things like being nominated for Best Upcoming Act at the Basso Radio awards, performing at the Diesel Global Party event, opening the new Minna Parikka store (a woman who makes shoes that are so valuable that most people can only afford half of a pair), being featured in snowboarding movies, and playing alongside such Coolness-Personified-In Band-Form as CSS, Crystal Castles and Múm at Flow Festival, and, recently, opening for Patrick Wolf in Helsinki.

Despite initial interest from major labels, publishers and other folk that sometimes fear for their jobs, the band went ahead with releasing their material through the internet and, well, waited to see if that was a good idea. It was. The positive reviews started to flood in from all over the blogosphere, leading to a well-received feature on Record Of The Day and coverage on Tom Robinson’s Introducing show on BBC Radio's 6Music. This was quickly followed by appearances at The Great Escape Festival 2009, and a successful promo trip to Tokyo to perform at the annual FinlandFest. The UK assault continued when TV OFF were chosen by BBC1's tastemaker, Huw Stephens, to perform at the inaugural Ja Ja Ja Club @ The Lexington, London, with the debut EP now scheduled for a UK release through Euphonios Records this spring.

The band’s own electropop clubnight, Music On/TV OFF, is already an established monthly event in Helsinki and will expand in 2010 to include regular nights in Stockholm, Berlin, London and Tokyo.

With the self-produced debut album now ready (and looking and sounding delightful), things are really hotting up perfectly for the duo.
