"Maximum Ink Cheap Liquor Review"

TED WULFERS
"Cheap Liquor"
(Patchdog Records)
www.tedwulfers.com

"Fishnet Woman" or "When I Get Drunk I Go To Wisconsin" is the highlight of this record, and it is a must for any cheesehead who blacks out on the weekends. Ted Wulfers is a pop-rock cowboy that follows influences of Cajun music along with equal parts Motley Crue and John Cougar Mellencamp. It comments on the Dairy State’s afternoon boilermaker philosophy with energy reminiscent of early ‘90s Lenny Kravitz at County Stadium in Milwaukee. "Women, Drinking, and Legendary Music" are this entertainer’s pastimes, and he plays almost every instrument on the record, to boot. "Cheap Liquor" is engineered by Manny Sanchez. —Brett Lemke - Maximum Ink

"Roots Music Report Cheap Liquor Review"

Roots Music Report 2006
Ted Wulfers
Cheap Liquor (Patchdog)
****

When talking about his music style, Ted Wulfers has said that he hates being pigeonholed. His latest CD, "Cheap Liquor" is a glowing testament to how strongly he feels about that statement. Among the 8 tracks on the CD, you are generously treated to Wulfers at his artistic best with great original rock and roll, alternative country and Americana tunes. As you listen to Wulfers crank out his songs, you know you are hearing someone who truly enjoys what he is doing. You can just feel it.

Part of this magic is because Wulfers is supported by a group of outstanding musicians that provide the just-right blend of instrumentation to achieve the desired mood and not overwhelm the song.

The other part of the magic comes from Wulfers, himself as he is a gifted and clever songwriter. The songs convey inspired stories that practically fill the emotional continuum. Add to that his strong rich vocals and you have got a 1st class, 1st-rate artist.

Ted Wulfers
Cheap Liquor
(Patchdog)
by Ed Huyck

Ted Wulfers lives in a hard drinkin’, hard lovin’, hard livin’ world—all of which comes out on his eight-song mini-album, Cheap Liquor. These are songs about relationships as they start ("She Bought Me a Drink"), how they break apart ("I Got Home Late"), and their messy end ("Lil’ Wilma"). And, most importantly for Wulfers, these are songs about drinking. "When I get drunk, I got to Wisconsin," he sings on "Fishnet Woman", a boogie-rock anthem that Pat Travers would probably have embraced in the ‘70s.

Cheap Liquor provides some nice thrills, from the country-rock swagger of "S.W.E.L.L." and "Fishnet Woman" to the contemplative tone of "I Got Home Late" and "L.S.D. Survival Song." - Popmatters.com

"Illinois Entertainer Cheap Liquor Review"

Local singer-songwriter Ted Wulfers, who used to gallop around as Ted Wulfers & Beggars Bridge, has a new pair of old shoes on his latest album, Cheap Liquor.

Wulfers’ past incarnation, frankly, was anonymous. He was an agreeable adult-pop songwriter, with a penchant for blending in so much he wasn’t noticeable (Where’s Wulfers?). Now with scraggly facial hair and a broken-bottle album title, he’s looking to kick that blasé demeanor to the curb and sing about loose women and whiskey, usually together ("She Bought Me A Drink"). A skeptic might point out how manufactured his new image seems, and he really reaches with the "When I get drunk, I go to Wisconsin" chorus of "Fishnet Woman," but these eight songs are an identity worth pursuing. Not having one previously probably brought him to cheap booze in the first place.

Wulfers opens for Hayes Carll.

"See what all the 'hybe' is about"

March 14, 2003
By Kimberly Nicoletti

SILVERTHORNE, Col. -- Imagine taking the best of Chicago's food -- lean Italian beef, thick crusted, stuffed pizza, hot dogs with all the works, not to mention the authentic Thai, Indian, Greek and Mexican cuisine -- and rolling it into one long buffet. That's what Ted Wulfers & Beggar's Bridge do with music.
The Chicago-based band blends rock, pop, jazz, blues, folk and bluegrass music into a style all its own. Wulfers calls his music "hybe" and rolls out a three-hour-straight musical menagerie of sounds and stories created from a fusion of styles. While the music has a feel that evokes U2, Sting, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen, Wulfers' influences range from Counting Crows to Chuck Berry and include just about everything in between.
With the spirit ranging from Jerry Garcia's music journeys to the imagination of Pink Floyd, Wulfers strives to embody a free-spirited sound. … The band has gigged throughout the Midwest and East Coast including the House of Blues in Chicago, Hard Rock cafes nationwide, festivals and openings for the Doobie Brothers, the Freddy Jones Band and the Disco Biscuits.
"We want to entertain people who want to kick back, let go of their worries and have fun with some of the best damn music they've ever heard," Wulfers said in a press release.
The Ted Wulfers & Beggar's Bridge concert is a "fun"-raiser for Summit County's visitor information centers, which have experienced a large funding cut this year.

"Listening in: New Music From Your Backyard"

Ted Wulfers & Beggar’s Bridge, “Agave Blue” (self-release)
Opening his third album with a song titled “Tequila ‘N Me,” you’d think Ted Wulfers might be a Midwestern Jimmy Buffett. While the occasional world beats and hippie ennui could make listeners think that to be true, Wulfers is more comfortable as a street corner bar poet.
Like “The River” –era Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band, Wulfers takes his roots pop to the big stage (Naked Pleasure,” “Asking All the Questions”) for big-time guitar grandiosity and epic calls to romance. Rising above your average blue-collar rocker, Wulfers wraps all the elements of his band together stylishly.

…the beams supporting this bridge stand on solid ground.

"Review of Agave Blue"

by Jeff Berkwitz
December 1, 2002

“From tippling tequila and toking pot to contemplating life and brooding over breakups, Ted Wulfers & Beggar’s Bridge cover both touching and trivial topics on the 15 tunes that comprise their third CD, Agave Blue. Highlights include “Tequila ‘N Me,” a bittersweet love song filled with earnest sentiments, and the buoyant, breezy atmosphere of the jazz-imbued “Zen of Oregon.” The production throughout is decent, with Wulfers’ self-described “hybe” style, which mixes rock, pop, blues, folk and bluegrass, alternately tapping into heads, hearts and toes.

"Garageband.com "S.W.E.L.L" Reviews - 2005"

The following are reviews from the toughest critics in the world, musicians and the fans. See what they have to say about "S.W.E.L.L" the first track off of Ted's upcoming Patchdog Records release Cheap Liquor.

Stand back people; these are pro's.
"You better start drinking or I'm leaving you" (George Thorogood). This song is written and performed in Thorogood fashion... should be like it's own genre (chuckle). Actually, this is Americana genre. Good rocker... Texas style. Stand back people, and don't try this at home, these guys are professionals.
This song should have a wide-open audience ranging from contemporary country to kickass rock and roll. What are you doing asking for a mood review? Are you crazy? It's everybody for themselves down at Trapper's Hill. The sound can't get any better.
- Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada

Got to love a good drinkin' song!
This tune is a good example of why true rock and roll still works. When the energy and honesty are there, it just clicks, and you think: "THAT'S what a ROCK song should sound like."
I like lyrics that sketch real people, and lines like "he was born with a silver spoon but he don't know how to use a fork" do it beautifully.
The guitars sould great - warm and punchy - and the rhythm section kicks. Overall, a fun, rocking tune with great energy and engaging lyrics.
- Los Angeles, California

Dig it
Nice hook, tight band, well-produced. I can see hot, drunk chicks dancing their butts off to this. Sounds like that's what the band is going for. Wicked scream right before the break. Pretty cool solo too. Like it!
- Matawan/Middletown, New Jersey

Good ol' rock tune-love it!
Hell yeah, sounds good. I love the old school guitar sound and the surfer type rock drumming style. now thats my kind of music. good clear prnounced vocals, very well done. good definition, good structure. Well done recording and good mixing. love the music keep it up you guys are doing really well for yourselves. I cant think of 1 thing that you guys would need to fix, everything is top notch...excellent
- Churubusco, Indiana

Heavenly Bar
Ontario!! Right on! One of my new favorite drinkin tunes. My bet would be that you guys kick live! Come on baby...like it guys. Great movement and fun! I'm sure this song is doing well on the "charts". Good luck!
- Grapevine, Texas

Nice beat
Liked the way it started with the vocals and guitar right away. Loved the way the rest of the band came in. The song put me in kind a party mood. This would be a great song to party to. Enjoyed the vocals they were very smooth. and The bass line caught me to. I dont really listen to this type of music to much but this one I really liked. The ending blew me away with the heaviness. Very good job with the recording part of it everything sounded great and stuck right out.
- Breckenridge, Michigan

In your face
classic rock 'n' roll with a country twist. Puts me i an dancing mood...
- Ugerloese, Copenhagen, Denmark

Radio Ready
Good song! Catchy - hooky. Good structure. Mood = upbeat and certainly danceable. I like the storytelling - which to me is what a song is....it tells a story.
Sound = I hear several things in it - from Bruce Springsteen to Black Crows and Georgia Sattellites even. Very much commercial radio ready.
Great Job on the production as well.
- Manchester, New Hampshire

This is great...
Instantly likeable, lyric is one I wished I'd written. Immediately grabs you in the first few seconds. Straight up guitar driven rock and roll. Can't imagine this not doing well. Love the production, lyric and energy. This one would have them dancing on the tables. Good time party song. It's 9:00 a.m. on a Saturday and I have a strange yearning for a Jagermeister. Great job guys!
- Binghamton, New York

Influence
Here is an original piece of self expression which gets in your face from beginning to end. Originality gives others an influence to originality. Nice work.
- Cheshire, Connecticut

rock it
Alright, now we're talking. I'll raise my... stupid, import beer to this all-american rock song. I love lyrics about bars and chicks.
- Los Angeles, California

jeffok says..............
great country/rockabilly sound right off the bat.....the electric guitars set a great tone and push the song more toward a mid-western rock sound....the arrangement flows easily and makes it fun to listen to...i really enjoyed the complex chord structure that varied the melody....it's a great driving song...
- Dunedin, Florida

Ooooo Organ
This puts me in a dancing mood, i can dance to this. This is very good.
- Lincoln, Nebraska

YUZ ROCKIN JAMBO!
In your face Rock & Roll sound. The mood is pure R&R and the lyrics added the hook. Cook it up, serve it up, take it out of the oven, lets eat!
- Parker, Colorado

Radio friendly
This tune is just tailored for radio. The mood is very much in the same vein as a Volkswagen commercial. The sound is tight and full but a bit too commercial for my persoanal taste. But that doesn't mean that these guys won't go far in their particular area. I like the organ a lot, guitar is tight. Production is very professional. I'm sure some A&R folks will give this a nod.
- Austin, Texas

Bio

Ted Wulfers is an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Born and raised in the Chicago-land area, he splits his time between Chicago and Los Angeles but calls the road his home. He is the leader of the Ted Wulfers Band and also performs solo acoustic. As a rootsy rocker, his combination of Heartland rock, Stadium pop, Stonesy swagger, California cool and Texas twang has earned him comparisons to Tom Petty, Wilco, The Foo Fighters, Chris Isaak, Dierks Bentley, Kid Rock, Kings of Leon, Lyle Lovett and The Wallflowers. His ability as a performer to connect with listeners keeps him busy for 50-200 shows a year.

Released in January of 2011, Ted’s single “Here We Go” went to radio and has been getting a lot of Top 40 and Hot AC radio play throughout the U.S. “Here We Go” is the first single from Ted’s 5th CD entitled Lucky No. 7 scheduled for release June 2011. Produced by Wulfers, Lucky No. 7 was Co-Produced and Engineered by David Rieley (Skillet/Billy Corgan/Elvis Costello) and Eric Corne (Anne McCue/Tim Easton/I Love You Phillip Morris), mixed and mastered by Rieley and Richard Dodd (Travling Wilburys/George Harrison/Tom Petty/Dixie Chicks)

Wulfers’ four CD releases have received significant radio and TV airtime. He has been featured on CNN, CNN Europe and ABC World News as well as in ESPN The Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, the LA Times, the NY Times and covered by hundreds of other radio/TV/print/media outlets.
