One of Mobile’s youngest bands will unveil some of its newest music Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Alabama Music Box.
The group is the Blackjacks, a quartet that has been together about a year. Along with Sunshine Factory, they’ll open for the Strangers Family Band, in a show with an advertised start time of 9 p.m.
Despite the brevity of the Blackjacks’ career and the youth of its members, the group will be celebrating the release of its debut album.

Share The self-titled disc, recorded at Jada Studios on Dauphin Street, starts off with a blast of strongly Beatles-influenced pop in “Hold You Tight.” But the band doesn’t get stuck in that rut, enjoyable as it might be, instead moving on to a more contemporary rock sound.
View full sizeCourtesy of the Blackjacks“We’re big into Velvet Underground and the Strokes,” said Brad Lane, one of the group’s vocalists and its lead guitarist. But he added that the group’s interests aren’t all rooted in conventional rock.
As for the band’s rapid pace of development, Lane said part of the credit went to the Alabama Music Box and the Blind Mule, two venues “very conducive” to the growth of bands focused on original material.
Mostly, he said, it’s the luck of finding the right lineup.
“I think it’s definitely a lot of good chemistry,” he said. “It’s all just really clicked.”
While the band will be promoting its CD release, it won’t be resting on the past — even a past that recent.
“Actually we’ve got four new songs we’re going to play Thursday,” Lane said.

Once upon a time there were four little boys without even a sound. Once a day they awoke to find upon themselves a series of guitars, and drums. These drums were quickly bid farewell in place of a small little man, Named Mellow. Then all was well and their sounds were magnificent, They decided that others must hear these sounds, as well so they climb a stage and presented them. They rejoiced as did the people,but one another day they said "We needst away to keep these sounds in boxes", so they went to a place and met a Magic Matt, who put their sounds in boxes. These boxes were brilliant they decided, and must also be presented to the people and they were. But one said these must not be the last of the boxes of sound we must make more and they did, and they climbed more stages, and also rejoiced, and will forever do the same.
