Listing Overview

The UK Songwriting Contest is now accepting entries from songwriters across the globe. Every year finalists and winners are featured on national and international radio, TV and press and are offered recording, management and publishing deals. After her success in the UK Songwriting Contest Natalie Chua was signed by Simon Cowell, which led to her being presented with a Platinum album on national television for sales of over 500,000.

All entries are very carefully examined by experienced industry professionals and everyone has the chance to get noticed. There will be Winners, Runners Up, Finalists and Semi Finalists Certificates as well as Commended Entry and Participant Certificates. Everyone gets a UKSC Certificate for each song entered and feedback on each song with the exact judges score and the position reached in the judging panels.

Prizes include promotion and media support, free multiple song copyright registration, Free membership of the Guild of International Songwriters & Composers, an Honorary Diploma in Music (DipMus), and numerous other prizes. For a full list of prizes, click here.

Many important people in the music industry follow this event closely, and past winners and finalists have been noticed by prominent members of the music community including Sir Paul McCartney and Simon Cowell. Writers that show potential, whether they are contest winners or not, may be offered opportunities for publishing and career development.

Songwriting ability is being judged, not performance or production, which means beginners have as much chance as every one else who enters. There are ten categories for entries: pop, rock/indie, adult contemporary, jazz/blues, folk/country, Christian/faith, urban & dance, lyrics only, instrumental, and open/miscellaneous. For full details of each category, please click here.

The UKSC is now in its seventh year. It was formed in 2002 with The BRIT Trust (of BRIT AWARDS fame) to encourage and promote the art of songwriting. The contest is supported by some of the most highly respected names in music including BBC Radio, Music Aid, the BRIT School, The Guild of International Songwriters and Composers, The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, The International Song Copyright Agency, Sibelius, Broadjam, Virtual Studio Systems, Backbeat Books and many other leading music industry professionals, organisations and companies.
