"CD Release Party with Anderson Council"

Anderson Council is a funky indie rock band from Ajax, Canada. Led by a couple of brothers, the group won several regional band competitions by producing jam and psychedelics based and influenced material that is also fun and easy to get into (and hard to leave behind). In fact, their live performances, both acoustic and regular, are said to be great and energetic.

Another interesting point in the Anderson Council story is that their debut EP, Under Auditorium, coming out these days, was produced by students at Durham College. Apparently, the students formed a student operated, not for profit indie label called Backrow Records, that this is its first release. The EP itself was mastered by Iain McPherson ("DJ Iain"), whose previous credits include production on USS's (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker) material.

Check out Anderson Council on MySpace and Facebook for streaming tracks and gig updates. Their CD release performance is on April 3rd at E. P. Taylor's, Oshawa, Ontario. If you're in Canada at the time, better book yourself a good spot. - http://laughingevergreens.blogspot.com

Backrow Records will be hosting the Under Auditorium release, with an acoustic performance from the band, at E.P. Taylors Pub in Oshawa on Friday, April 3 at 6 pm.

Backrow Records’ aim is to bring local talent to the forefront of the Durham region music scene. The debut release from Anderson Council will be the first CD ever to be recorded, distributed, and released by the label. After the release party, the band will perform as a full band with One Divided and London Swagger later that night at E.P. Taylors.

The album combines rock and funk influences, ranging from Pink Floyd to Jack White, with hook-laded choruses and achieved musicianship. The four-piece group from Ajax, Ontario has been recording at the student-run Push Play Studios at Durham College and is poised to increase their profile amongst the indie rock scene. Stand out tracks from the six-song EP include “Pinned & Posted”, “Amanda Lynne”, and the instrumental track “Wake-Up Wonder”. Under Auditorium was mastered by producer Iain McPherson (“DJ Iain”), whose credits include remixes for U2 and Madonna.

The Backrow Records release of Under Auditorium will take place on Friday, April 3 at E.P. Taylors, located at 2000 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa, Ontario. "Anderson Council releases CD"

Mix up some rock and funk, add a bit of psychedelic beats and what you are left with is Anderson Council's first CD, Under Auditorium.

It's the first extended play (EP) CD by Anderson Council, a psychedelic-influenced jam band from Ajax that for the last two years has been building up a loyal fan base in Durham.

The six-song CD reveals influences ranging from Pink Floyd to Jack White. Standout tracks include "Pinned and Posted", "Amanda Lynne", and the instrumental "Wake-Up Wonder".

"There is no band on the radio that sounds like us," said Jeff Robertson, one of the band's guitarists and songwriters. "Most bands play a certain style and all their songs sound similar. With us every song is very different."

Under Auditorium was mastered by producer Iain McPherson ("DJ Iain"), whose credits include remixes for U2 and Madonna.

The four-piece group has won several Supernova-hosted competitions, including the Battle of the Bands. The group was asked by promoters to headline their current contests along with previous Supernova winners like Sum 41 and Billy Talent.

Under Auditorium is also the first CD ever to be recorded, distributed and released by Backrow Records, a student-operated, not-for-profit, independent record label out of Durham College in Oshawa. The record label is run by second- and third-year music business management students at Durham College.

The release party was hosted earlier this month by Backrow Records as a part of Rock N' Reel 2009, an annual music and film festival also put on by the music business management students. After the release party, the band performed with One Divided and London Swagger at E.P. Taylors, the Durham College campus pub.

"Anderson Council"

Anderson Council is a psychedelic jam band, heavily influenced by artists past and present. Anderson Council uses experimental electric guitar riffs to share the emotion carried within the music, and a bass line that takes you for a walk around the mosaic that is Anderson Council. At first listen, it is easy to compare them to a classic rock heavy-hitter such as Pink Floyd. However, Anderson Council is also influenced by such contemporary artists as Jack White and Sam Roberts.

Bio

Straight out of the GTA, Anderson Council formed in late 2007 with members Jeff Robertson on Guitars, Dave Yorke on Bass, Craig Robertson on Guitar/Piano, and Mike Macchione on Percussion. The band is just beginning to get their music out, with live shows, and recording soon to come. Anderson Council is a very unique band with psychedelic vibes and melodic tones, combined with a new original sound; producing long songs that can take you on a trippy journey of sound, to short poppy tunes that you can sing along with. Catch Anderson Council playing in the GTA, we promise you will not be disappointed you came!

Mix a collection of rock and funk influences and you will eventually get Anderson Council, a psychedelic jam band heavily influenced by artists from the past and present. Such a combination of Pink Floyd, Jack White and Sam Roberts has led the band to experiment with electric guitar riffs and a walking bass line that keeps the band on track. In addition, raw, emotive lyrics and a funk-influenced drumbeat make Anderson Council a musical mosaic.

This four-piece from Ajax, Ontario write their songs out of jam sessions. The group of friends banded together musically in 2007 and after gigging around Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area they have quickly built up a loyal, local fan base. Their influences are present on stage and on the surface as the band took their name from the same blues musicians’ names that their biggest inspiration did, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.

The boys were quick to jump into playing gigs and band competitions. After winning several Supernova hosted competitions, including the Battle of the Bands and the Redpipe.ca Out of the Garage Series, the group has been asked by the promoter to headline their current contests. As with previous Supernova winners Sum 41, Three Days Grace and Billy Talent, the results have been beneficial to Anderson Council’s mission of spreading their music wider and further with each move. They’ve been able to reap the rewards of free recording time, prime timeslots during competitions, longer set times, and a spot on 102.1 the edge’s Friday Night Live program.

The strength of their live performances and ability to engage and win over a crowd has not gone unnoticed. After catching the eyes of CASBY-winning alternative/electric rock duo USS (Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker), the band has been tapped several times to open their Oshawa and Toronto shows. In addition, Anderson Council has played shows with flourishing Toronto/New York rock/reggae ensemble Rebel Emergency.

Guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Jeff Robertson sums up Anderson Council’s mission statement; “I would love to reach as many people as we can, and continue to do what I love, writing and performing music.” Their passion to spread their music and song writing skills as far and wide as possible is what drives the band to continue their quest. Chief songwriters and brothers, Craig and Jeff Robertson, approach their song writing in a natural fashion; through their extensive jam sessions and improvisation sessions with the complete band.

Anderson Council released their first album, Under Auditorium, through the independent, student-run label Backrow Records. This will allow their artistic vision to lead the way to the indie spotlight. Blending the feel of classic rock, modern rock and an infusion of psychedelic rock, makes this up-and-coming group a potential major player in the independent rock scene."
