"Atomic Solace Plays Millenium Music Conference 2011"

This rock foursome hails from Richmond, Ky., and after releasing their debut album in 2007 (they were just “Solace” then — not yet Atomic), the band was invited to perform at SXSW 2009 in Austin.

Under its improved name, Atomic Solace released a self-titled EP in 2010 and has been touring throughout the East Coast. Check it out on ReverbNation (reverbnation/atomicsolace) — I really like “Heartache” and “Standing On the Edge,” these guys know how to craft a hook, but I like that they don’t deny their Southern roots either. Even in their more “rock-and-roll” moments, there’s a tinge of Kentucky in there.

"Solace Steps up the the Plate"

While stepping out on a stage in front of thousands opening up for two of the hottest national acts on the chart today might unnerve some, for Solace it was just another day at the office.
Solace, the winner of the "Croc's Next Step Campus Tour" Kentucky competition opened up for One Republic and Fabolous at the Eku Ravine April 12th.
RLM was on hand to take a look at the young band. "Wow, those guys outperformed the headliners hands down. The energy was incredible and the songs rocked. Their version of "Freebird" was crazy good." said RLM Publisher Anthony Hudson. - Richmond Life Magazine

"Left to Lead - Album Review"

Atomic Solace - Left To Lead
2008, Atomic Solace

Central Kentucky is the place for Atomic Solace. What started out as a jam session among four bored friends has turned into juggernaut. Atomic Solace (formerly named Solace) has built quite a buzz in the past year or so, culminating in a lights out performance at SXSW 2009. The band continues to tour in support of their 2008 debut album, Left To Lead, while beginning the writing process a new project. Joe Ryan lends his impassioned vocals to the instrumental core of Kyle Moon (bass, vox); Brandon Coots (guitar, vox) and Ben Williamson (drums), dialing up the creative and musical tension to eleven.

Left To Lead opens with Over You, revealing an unusual and intriguing sound that seems to combine the Southwestern rock of The Refreshments and the Americana smooth of Blue Rodeo or even Wilco. Atomic Solace isn’t your typical Americana/Rock band, winning over listeners here with a subtly catchy tune that will stick with you. Summer Breeze continues the display of strong songwriting on a thoroughly enjoyable transition to the Latin Lounge-cum-Rock N Roll of Devil In Disguise. I really like the writing choices these guys are making thus far, and the execution is spot-on. Brandon Coots' guitar work is especially enjoyable. Atomic Solace hits a bump on Hold On, a fairly stereotypical rock ballad that finds the band losing their energy just a tad, but they rebound nicely on Left Behind. This might just be Ryan's perfect song as a vocalist, and the band rises up for their best all-around performance on the disc.

Oh, if they'd only stopped there. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing really wrong with the rest of the disc; the songs are decent and listenable, but won't light up radio dials or listener's ears to any great measure. Just Believe is a heartfelt love song, and Demon has some great vocal harmony work going on, but the songs in between just don't register much energy or interest from the band. Perhaps that's not the way it played out in the studio, but on CD it sounds like they lost direction. Atomic Solace rebounds a bit on the catchy West Coast, but it's just not up to the level that Atomic Solace established over the first six songs.

Left To Lead isn't a bad album by any measure, but it is a study in contrasts. Atomic Solace blows in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, nearly sounding like two difference bands in the process. This is one of those occasions when an EP might have been the right first step instead of pushing for enough songs to complete a full-length album. Either way, however, Atomic Solace establishes themselves as a band capable of big things on Left To Lead. They should definitely be on your radar.

Bio

Atomic Solace joined forces at college and soon discovered after one practice and a hugely successful show one week later that this amalgamation of rock just might work. Bonded in musical tastes with their creative processes in tow...they set out on a journey and established themselves as a band that is here to stay with passionate, high intensity shows and culturally inspired songs.
The band, previously known as Solace, recorded their first album “Left to Lead” in late 2007 with Phil Weisenberger in Georgetown. Left to Lead was well received, undoubtedly because it took one back to an era where songs were more than just auditory pleasure... they had meaning. The release also lead to a spot on the Crocs Next Step Campus Tour playing shows alongside One Republic and Fabolous.
Bigger shows and more fans soon followed. With an invite to play SXSW 2009 in Austin along with a mini tour, the fans were in abundance and yearning for more; Now it was time to head back to the studio. In late 2009, with the help of legendary producer Eric Greedy, Atomic Solace started recording their new EP in Nashville’s own Java Jive Studio. Using the new CLASP system with Chris Estes they were able to achieve that old school tape sound with a brand new technology.
In 2010 Atomic Solace continued to gain traction with a successful showcase at the Millennium Music Conference in PA, 21 shows slammed into a 28 day tour, the release of their new EP, a music video, and a week tour with Camplified Summer Camp Tour.
With a return to Millennium Music Conference in 2011, Atomic Solace picked up an assortment of shows in New York City, touring the region through the first months of 2012.
Feeling that they had accomplished all they could in their region, Atomic Solace decided it was time to relocate to a region with a thriving music and arts scene and quickly set their sights on Nashville. Since their move they have been refining their act, immersing into the scene, writing a plethora of new material and look forward to introducing Nashville to Atomic Solace.
