Smith on guitar is really wonderful. He demonstrated his skill with an awesome instrumental from his latest solo CD, escape velocity, that had the crowd clapping wildly. Smith and Fraser are caught in the middle between folk and jazz. Their concerts reflect influences as diverse as Django Rheinhart, Bruce Cockburn, Dave Brubeck and James Taylor. They play a mix of original and classic tunes, that keep delighted audiences guessing.
Andrew Smith is a troubadour whose music has taken him all over the world. He is an accomplished singer songwriter, a captivating tap-style guitarist and an award winning music producer. Andrew is the winner of the Okanagan Arts Awards in the category of Music for 2014. He is one of the few Canadians to have won the prestigious Kerrville Newfolk Songwriting Competition in the USA and his instrumental cd escape velocity won him the Okanagan Instrumental Artist Award.
Neil Fraser is a master guitarist, studio player, composer and arranger. Coming from a background of Jazz, Blues and Roots music, he is a highly respected and sought after musician and music teacher. Influenced by Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery and Eric Clapton, he likes to take chances and takes the audience along for the ride.
Andrew is one of very few Canadians to have won the prestigious Kerrville Newfolk Songwriting Competition. He is also a "world class" tap style guitarist. Critics have said that Andrew Smith "plays like Don Ross (finger-style guitar champion) and sounds like James Taylor".
Andrew is a recent winner of the Okanagan Arts Award in the category of music.
Andrew won the KERRVILLE NEW FOLK SONGWRITING COMPETITION on the strength of his songs 'Holes in the Night Sky' and 'Rite of Passage'
'Rite of Passage' received Honourable Mention at the MID ATLANTIC SONG CONTEST, and was short-listed for the INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING CONTEST.
'Do You Like It?' received Honourable Mention at the 2007 SINGER-SONGWRITER AWARDS.
Andrew's solo instrumental CD 'escape velocity' won him the OKANAGAN INSTRUMENTALIST OF THE YEAR award and received two nominations from 'JUST PLAIN FOLKS' MUSIC AWARDS, and 'The Pilgrimage' was short-listed for the INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING CONTEST.
