Elvis sound-a-like champ calls Prairieville home

Forget Graceland--Prairieville is the new home of Elvis…Or at least someone who sounds like him.
Meet Andy Ray Perry... He’s the reigning Elvis Extravaganza Sound-a-Like Champion--and that's only after six months of practice.
Perry says he chased after his dream of becoming a country signing star for twenty years but it wasn't until he geared up as the king of rock and roll that things finally clicked.
Perry admits he's been blessed with a voice, but claims it still takes hours of practice every day to even come close to the great Elvis Presley.

From a field of 1,300 entries, Prairieville country singer Andy Ray Perry advanced to the semifinals and then the Top 10 of The Road to Nashville, a Capitol Records Nashville and Yahoo! online talent contest. Perry was in Nashville this week to participate in The Road to Nashville's final round, held Wednesday and Thursday. The winner, to be announced Aug. 28, will receive $50,000 and a demo deal with Capitol Records Nashville. - John Wirt
Local country/gospel singer Andy Ray Perry has been chosen as a top ten finalist in the Road to Nashville Talent Search by Capitol Nashville and Yahoo, thanks in part to the voting by local fans who contacted the website and gave him a boost. Now it's out of our hands.
The finalists were flown to Nashville yesterday for their final audition and live taping in front of an expert panel of judges, including Capitol Records CEO and President Mike Dungan and songwriter and vice president of A&R for Capitol Records Nashville, Larry Willoughby. The winner will be announced Aug. 28, and if Perry wins he'll get $50,000 and a demo deal.
"But the really really exciting thing," Perry said, "is that, even if I'm not the grand prize winner, Capitol Nashville also reserves the right to give any of the remaining nine contestants a demo-deal. The people I will be performing for are ones who can change mine and my family's lives forever!"

A recent top ten finalist at this years' Tupelo Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest, Andy competed against nearly forty other contestants, some of whom perform in Las Vegas, Branson, New Jersey,and Myrtle Beach! He was also named Best Elvis Sound-A-Like at the 2010 Elvis Extravaganza National Finals. Add a first runner-up finish at the Monroe La. Images of the King contest and you can see that Andy is well on his way to becoming a highly sought after Elvis Tribute Artist! He was also selected to compete in Dallas Texas for the Elvis Tribute Artist World Cup Qualifier for the chance to represent the United States at the World Cup in South Wales, UK in which he finished in the top five!
Born and raised in Baton Rouge Louisiana, Andy grew up with a love of music that was encouraged by his loving parents. His earliest memories of Elvis are his mother playing "Aloha from Hawaii" on Saturday mornings as she cooked breakfast.
Andy married his high school sweetheart Tana, and together they have a son, Dylan. Andy currently resides in Prairieville, La.
Andy portrays Elvis with respect and dignity and tries his best to represent the King of Rock and Roll in a professional manner. Andy is unique in that he can perform songs from all three era's of Elvis' music! From "Hound Dog" to "Hurt" !
