"Finished With You Review by BJ Thomas"

Ashley Robertson “Finished With You”
MAPL

Ashley Robertson was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, but as soon as she was old enough she headed for the bright lights of Nashville and eventually enrolled in Belmont University’s famed Music Business program. In Nashville she met her first producer Allen Frizzell, brother of the legendary Lefty Frizzell and Ashley’s debut album was released in 2003 to critical and international success. She became one of the youngest songwriters ever to have two solo written songs hit the top 100 at Canadian country radio, numerous trips to Europe and the U.K. followed and she recently toured Australia performing her songs at the legendary Tamworth Country Music Festival.

“Finished With You” is her latest single release. Written by Ashley and produced by John Nicholson at Hilltop Studios Nashville TN. This is a beautiful piece of work, a gentle bluegrass lament in the style of Alison Krauss & Union Station

“Finished With You” is a fine song. The vocal delivery is sweet. The Acoustic Guitar, Fiddle and Dobro playing is superb as is the rest of the musicianship and production on this record

"Woman in the White Dress Record Review"

ASHLEY ROBERTSON

Woman in the White Dress

Indie

Produced by Ashley Robertson

(12 Selections- Playing Time 41:08)

I Don’t Hate You/A Letter/Woman in the White Dress/This Is How It Happens/When You Go To Sleep/I’ll Think About You/Deep in the Night/After You’re Gone/No One Better/Sing Me A Song/If You Asked Her To/Everything To Me

Winnipeg-bred singer/songwriter Ashley Robertson delivers her sophomore album with Woman in the White Dress, and steps into full control of the project by writing all of the songs, and producing the recording session in Nashville where she is a graduate of Belmont University.

Robertson has developed an attractive vocal vibrato that wasn’t as noticeable on her 2003 self-titled debut set; and she supports that sound here with some edgy, bluegrass-flavoured arrangements that provide new direction for the artist. The main thrust of the songs deals with ‘lost love’, a theme that is constant throughout all of Robertson’s songwriting here, as confirmed by the message of the album’s title track (I Was The) Woman in the White Dress (…a long time ago).

There are several songs on the album that draw special attention. Deep in the Night is a tune about hurt and lost love that Ashley Robertson delivers with deep vocal emotion, characteristics that also make No One Better an equally strong selection. For something with a bit more energy and bounce listen to the catchy Everything To Me and the album’s opener I Don’t Hate You; while If You Asked Her To has a bluegrass edge that comes complete with banjo riffs. Listen for a similar acoustic/bluegrass feel in the songs A Letter (previously released as a single) which Robertson performs with an effective high lonesome vocal feel.

Woman in the White Dress was recorded at Hilltop Studios in Nashville (with co-production credits to John Nicholson), utilizing some of Music City’s top studio musicians.
