Asking Andy/ November 30/ Michael Danilowicz
It’s not an easy life for our local bands. First, most of the members have full time jobs, in addition to their gigs, so getting practice time in can be hard to do. Getting booked is no easy task either, especially if the band is trying to branch out in a new area. There are plenty more problems that face bands too; but imagine what it’s like for a newly formed group.

Just ask members of the band Asking Andy, who came together in August. One of the keys for any new band is to gain a following and such is the case with this band.

“We try to grab the interest of as many people as possible to get them to return to our next shows,” drummer Luke Barnhart said. “We try to use the Internet as much as possible to spread the word but the true sale is at the show.”

One area the band hopes to acquire a following is in Bloomsburg. Asking Andy will be playing Harry’s Grille on December 16. But it won't be the first time they played there, the band were the featured performers at the Katrina Benefit concert a few months ago. Barnhart said that the band can’t wait to return.

“We had a great response from the crowd the first time we played,” he said. “It was great to have a crowd that interacted in songs with us.”

Asking Andy is made up from four different local bands: Broke by Tuesday, rU21, aDickdid and Something Fluid.

“The hardest part seems to be getting used to each other’s musical style,” Barnhart said. “We came from four different cover bands doing the same songs just doing them differently; finding a happy medium is tougher than we thought.”

Speaking of songs, guitar player Darrel Adams said that the band isn’t limited to tunes from a certain time period or genre, they play what gets people on the dance floor.

“We're currently playing covers by bands such as Green Day, Blink 182,Bowling for Soup, Rick Springfield, Tommy Tutone, Fallout Boy, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty, Weezer, and the list goes on,” he explained.

A lot of people are curious about the name Asking Andy and what it means, Adams said. But the guitar player is tight lipped about the answer.

“That’s top-secret information and I would have to ask Andy if I would be allowed to tell you,” he said. “So my suggestion to them is to come out to an AA show and find out for themselves.”

Along with finding out whom Andy is, there are other reasons to check out this new band in the area, Adams said.

“We are definitely planning to add a few original songs to the AA set lists in the future ...” he pointed out. “ ... but the main thing that Asking Andy hopes to accomplish now, and in the future, is to completely entertain everyone that comes to an AA show.”
