We are a rock band from NYC with male/female vocal interplay. We've been compared to Pixies, BJM, and X. Indie-rock w/ classic rock undertones such as the Stones and Kinks. Our last album charted on 30+ CMJ stations + we played the festival for the first time in 2010. We made a music video in 2010.
Automatic Children was called one of the top NYC bands by The Deli Magazine, twice. Releases include a 2007 EP ("It's Not Me, It's You"), a limited-edition vinyl 7" from 2009 ( "Coming Over Me"/"Solitude"), and a full-length album ("New is Beautiful"), from 2010. Skopemag.com called "Coming Over Me" "classic indie rock that does not disappoint" and said that it "has hit all over it." Big Takeover magazine called the song Wake Up from the 2007 EP a "poppy post-punk gem with some of the best this-relationship's not-working lyrics ever." Brooklyn Rocks said that "the EP is a lo-fi gem". All of the releases were produced by Rob McCulloch (Supple) and the 2007 7" was mastered by Steve Fallone at Sterling Sound (TV on the Radio, Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, Ra Ra Riot).
Journalists have compared AC to Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Pixies, Sebadoh, X, The Jesus and Mary Chain and the Individuals. Clubs that AC have played include - NYC: The Studio@Webster Hall, Southpaw, Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, Arlene's Grocery, Fontanas, Goodbye Blue Monday, Spike Hill, Coco 66, Public Assembly, Parkside Lounge, Cameo, Trash Bar, a headlining slot for Club NME and Legacy Night at the Annex and a CMJ Performance at Crash Mansion (2010). The band has also played Two Boots of Bridgeport CT, and Gemstones (Lowell, MA).
The band released a video for the song "Coming Over Me" in the summer of 2010 shot and directed by Melissa Kelly and a 2010 CMJ Radio campaign garnered the band several charting positions and regular rotation. The band is currently writing new material for future release.
